Airport transfers

What is the best way to get from the airport to downtown Hue?

Airport to downtown HCMC?

HoiAn to the airport in DaNang (private driver, at $49.00, or other)?

Siem Reap Airport to downtown Siem Reap?

Is a private driver the best way to go from Hue to HoiAn? (vietnamdriver.com, for example, at $59)?

$59 sounds like a very good price....i have been quoted $85..

SR is very easy--lots of taxis waiting, but also your hotel will send a car for you if you ask...

i have asked my hue hotel twice for a car and they have not responded, so i will just take a taxi....taxi is always the cheapest...

Taxis are fine with me as long as they're reliable, honest, and not more expensive than a car service!!

airport to HCMC: look for the pre-paid sign directly opposite you as you exit customs. It's hidden in a money-change place. Reliable, no hassle, no grasping paw for tips: US$8.00

Siem Reap: there's a pre-paid taxi stand just inside the exit doors. I've forgotten how much - maybe $10.

Hoi An to Danang: your hotel can arrange that easily on the spot. No need to stress. It really shouldn't be $59.00. Only rhk would pay that. They see him coming...

Ha Ha. The $59 price is from HUE to HoiAn, not HoiAn to Danang (although I think the latter is $49, according to dgunbug's trip report).

It's less than $5USD if you take a taxi in Saigon to D1. Mai Lin or Saigon Tourist are 2 of the better ones.

Are you wanting to know about the drive from Hue to Hoi An over the HAi Van pass? I believe there are two options and you should know in advance which one you prefer--brevity or scenery?

Are you wanting to know about the drive from Hue to Hoi An over the HAi Van pass?

Is there another way to go? Probably scenery, but what's the difference in time of trip?

ekscrunchy Aug 6th, 2010 09:12 AM

I took the route over the pass; I don't know the difference in time between that and the route that tunnels through the mountains. The drive took about three hours, if I remember correctly.

I have some details in my trip report, if you can wade through it---I will bring up the complete version for you, too..

Thanks for the links. I'll print them so I can wade through them this weekend (we've now got all but 2 days of our itinerary planned -- not what we'll do on those days, just where we'll be), all our hotel reservations made (except for one night which we're leaving open for Halong Bay), and half our air reservations made. This is very unlike us -- to have nothing left to do 7 months before a trip. Unheard of!!
