The one with the jazz is Toriyoshi. This is from the website:

Toriyoshi Jazz: Roppongi
This branch of the popular yakitori chain features a gigantic stereo amp and speakers in the main dining room pounding out classic sixties jazz. Open till 5am. Roppongi 6-1-3, Roc Mon 4F. 03-5775-0290. (Open Nov 30)

Don't get me wrong, I love jazz, I'm just concerned we won't be able to talk comfortably. Eric will be here this weekend so we'll have a look at some places and see if we can come up with anything. Some of your earlier recos looked good.

kuranosuke Jan 25th, 2007 06:10 PM

laurie, with the music lound, conversation will be difficult. ok, toriyoshi is out. lets see what eric finds out.

if he is staying in roppongi, he can check out toricho. just advise him not to make a mistake and take the eleavator up instead of down. there is a gentlemens club upstairs. i almost made that error. lol.

kuranosuke Feb 17th, 2007 12:10 PM

ht, i'm guessing you are leaving soon, right?

did we ever decide on a yakiniku place? did eric find any interesting places?

hawaiiantraveler Feb 18th, 2007 08:19 PM

ken, we leave 3/15 and will be in China until 4/1. Are you home yet?

Anyplace is ok with us. Toricho sounds good too.

laurie, how is the rest of your Japan itinerary coming along? Got it all figured out yet? :)

Aloha!

kuranosuke Feb 19th, 2007 09:55 PM

ht, got back this past friday, and still a bit jl.

toricho is ok with me too. its in a good location, easy to find, and it just happens to be in a building that has a gentlemens club upstairs.

lets see what laurie and eric come up with.

laurieco Feb 20th, 2007 03:33 PM

Hey HT and Ken,

Sorry I haven't gotten back to you on the yakitori place. I just got back from Florida so I haven't been on Fodors for a bit. Anyway, I found a place that's supposed to be good but I haven't been able to find a website for it. The name is Ganchan and it's in Roppongi (6-8-23 Roppongi, Minato-ku). I read about it in a few books and it's supposed to be good but a little small. I'm open to anything at this point! If we can't decide, I guess we could go to Toricho and just scream above the music ;-)

Ken, I think you read a prior post wrong, Eric wasn't going to Japan that weekend, he was coming down to New York!!! We have a "commuter" marriage. Anyhow, we didn't find anything online.

HT, the itinerary is:

March 26-29 Kyoto
March 30 Nara
March 31-April 1 Kamakura
April 2-April 7 Tokyo

hawaiiantraveler Feb 20th, 2007 04:44 PM

laurie,

April 3rd at Ganchan sounds excellent to me. I've read great reviews about Ganchan so would be nice to try.

Let's see if it's ok with Ken and figure out a good time to meet. It will be a work day in Tokyo so it would be better if we were early to beat the after work rush(if there is one in Roppongi) seeing the size of the place.

Aloha!

laurieco Feb 21st, 2007 03:49 AM

Earlier is probably better. I remember when we went to the place in Ginza, we were lucky to get a table. Once Ken chimes in and gives his approval, we can decide on a time.

kuranosuke Feb 21st, 2007 07:03 AM

ganchan it is. do you have a phone #? do they have tables or just counters?

anytime ok with us.

kuranosuke Feb 21st, 2007 07:07 AM

i mean phone # for ganchan. lol

hawaiiantraveler Feb 21st, 2007 08:16 AM

I wonder if they take reservations? Perhaps our Japanese linguist might call for some info :)

Aloha!

kuranosuke Feb 21st, 2007 08:36 AM

ht, you're not suggesting a boys nite out at yakiniku ain, right? lol.

i will ck with ganchan to see if they accept reservation. what time should i ask for?

hawaiiantraveler Feb 21st, 2007 01:27 PM

k,

look further down the page under "best bar in Tokyo",.....I didn't even see that other add at first, what are you doing on the 2nd, lol

Is 5 or 6 pm too early?

laurieco Feb 21st, 2007 01:36 PM

I have a phone number for Ganchan: 03/3478-0092.

What time do people get out of work over there? It's probably best to get there at least 30 minutes earlier.

laurieco Feb 22nd, 2007 02:27 PM

HT and Karanosuke--Have we decided on a time? Actually, I know we haven't but I just wanted to top this so we could get a consensus.

kuranosuke Feb 22nd, 2007 06:25 PM

laurie an ht, i got us reservations for 6pm on 4/3, under my name sato. hope this time is ok.

ht, i'm free on the 2nd. ;-)

hawaiiantraveler Feb 22nd, 2007 07:43 PM
