AIR INDIA?
Has anyone flown Air India? Also have you ever heard of Globe Travels? They booked a flight to Toulouse and I fly Air India to Frankfurt, then Lufthansa to TLS. Does anyone have any experience with Air India or Globe Travels? I'm concerned about the on time performance, dependability with luggage and hygiene on Air India.

Unless you have a high threshold of tolerance and pain, and you get a price deal that is too good to be true, you should avoid Air India.
Feedback from people who have traveled Air India is available at - http://www.airlinequality.com/Forum/air_india.htm |
The thread that I have just topped for you started out to relate a story about Indian Airlines -- which, of course, is NOT the same as Air India -- but in the fifty-odd replies to the original tale, quite a few references to Air India cam up. Maybe you'd like to read it... it should be just below this one now.

I don't know why people think Air India and Indian Airlines are not related, as they have common ownership. They are both state-owned airlines. Air India is the International arm of the airline, and Indian Air is the domestic arm.
I would both say are very average, mostly in terms of the age of their aircraft and their service levels. I don't have any issues with their "hygiene" and on a flight from the US to Frankfurt the baggage would be handled by US and German baggage handlers and I would not have any more than the usual concerns about it being lost (which I never worry about anyway). That being said, unless the price were very very cheap indeed, I am not sure I would fly them. I go to India about twice a month myself, and my rule is to never fly them to or within India unless all other flights are completely booked. |
We flew by Air India Chicago to Frankfurt and back. The hygiene is pretty poor (bathrooms became so dirty after about two hours of flying!), however we did not have any other issues with them. No problems with luggage or on time performance. The best part of it was the price. I would fly with them again if the price is right.

Thanks for your response. I decided not to fly Air India, on the advice of a friend who said it was the worst airline, and suggested I swim to Europe over flying them. I flew Air Tahiti Nui, and was very pleased.
I'm now having withdrawls. It's hard to get over Dordogne. It's the most beautiful place in the world. And I've been many places. I stayed at a fabulous chambre d'hote, Residence Versailles. The proprietors are welcoming and surprisingly, French. Most of the Chambre d'hotes in that area are run by Brits or Dutch. All in all a lovely trip and it started when I decided to fly Air India. |
