Air from Thailand to Bali
 

Need help again with our Asia trip. Is Thai air the only airline that flies from BKK to Bali direct? The flight is quite expensive--around 900.00 US for adult and child so I was wondering about another option. So far I have Ottawa Canada to Bangkok and then flying home from Singapore after the Bali stop. So I could do Bangkok to Singapore then a return flight Sing to Bali. Just having trouble with where the airlines fly. Is there a website like travelocity for Asia? Thanks everyone!

Low cost carriers do not show on web booking sites, so you have to book them from their own websites.

One-way flights on full service carriers are often more expensive than round trips as the various (and many) discount fares have rules that require round trip travel. One-way fares are generally also full fare.

Check routings on Jetstar, Air Asia and Tiger Air. Pay attention to connection times...if you miss a connecting flight on any of the budget carriers then you have to buy a new ticket, no matter what the reason, even if the airline is at fault. So, allow plenty of time to connect, and if you connect in Singapore or Kuala Lumpur, allow time for immigration/customs on each flight.

With making such connections and taking a non-direct route, a whole day will likely be devoted to getting to Bali..maybe even an overnight if the connections don't work. You may just have to decide which is more important to you, saving time, having no hassle, or saving money.

Personally, I think Jet Star Asia is your best bet. You'll have to fly to Singapore and from there to Bali, and they don't fly the Bali - Singapore route every day, but at least they're a little better about connections that some of the other low cost carriers.

Still, as KJ said, you'll end up spending a whole day, or more, traveling, and is that really the way you want to spend your vacation when you're already losing two days just to get here and back.

chris, my little OAG book lists only the Thai flight non-stop plus the following connections:

Royal Brunei through Bandar Sari Begawan (Don't laugh, this is a good airline and a good connection)

Garuda through Jakarta (this is a not so good airline and an okay connection)

Both should be economical.

Time or money, don't we always seem to have a shortage of one or the other! :)

i am using air asia through K/L...quite a savings...

last time i flew this route i used thai air....eddie at sea tours got me a steeply discounted ticket...
