Air China - How is it?
 

Could anyone give me some feedback on Air China for long haul flights please? Thank you in advance.

It's actually a very decent airline. I flew LAX to PEK last year and I found it to be a completely competent airline. Decent food, decent service, fair leg room (I'm 6'5, and I thought it was tollerable)

Words of advice - get to the airport early. Both times we flew, my friend and I got there fairly early, and still had no selection of seats, so we had to sit in the middle of the middle each time.

I flew Air China LAX/PEK in 2001 and agree with JPWasko. No problems, on tome, more legroom than US airlines.

I ordered the vegetarian meal service and recall it being really good for airline food. I also liked that they served drinks in coach for no cost.

We flew with Air China in June this year (hk-beijing, beijing - Shanghai, Shanghai- Melbourne). They were ok but didnt compare to the airlines we usually use (Singapore airlines, Cathay Pacific etc). The domestic flights were ok but the flight home to Australia was not good at all. Food was disgusting (couldnt eat most of it, and I'm not overly fussy), no personal tv screens and the one large one at the front kept breaking down all the time so they had to keep changing movies. Toilets needed to be maintained better. The only good thing I would say about it was the fact that the plane was very empty so we were able to switch to full rows of seats and lay down. Having said that we did get to all our destintations safely (3 hour delay on way home). Would I fly them again?? perferably not.

I would definitely say they are a reliable and safe airline. I flew to Beijing 2 weeks ago and it was a pleasant flight. My flight left at 1:30am and within 1 1/2 hours into the flight, cabin service began and they started serving dinner. Honestly, my stomach couldn't handle dinner at almost 3am.

It's certainly a safe and reliable airline that I would fly again. I don't think there is anything to worry about.

But I'll stress it one more time. If you do go with Air China, get there early to get good seats. Our flight was sold-out and theres nothing worse than being in the middle of the middle.
