Air Asia to Vietnam Airlines connection in BKK
 

I want to fly from Chaing Rai to BKK on Air Asia and then connect to my Vietnam Airlines flight back to Hanoi.

The Chaing Rai flight arrives in BKK at 10:10am with the Vietnam Airlines flight departing BKK at 12:20pm. Basically (if things are ontime!) I will have about 2 hours to make this connection.

Does this seem to be OK? Are there any issues that I need to deal with that might necessitate coming back to BKK a day early and laying over that night somewhere to be sure I can make the Hanoi Flight?

Also a baggage question. I typically do "carry on" with a backpack and small roller suitcase. I am wondering if the small suitcase will need to be "checked" for Air Asia. Reading their online information makes me think I am going to have to check it.

Air Asia state that carry on luggage is limited to 7 kg. I flew with them from BKK to Nakhon Si Thamarrat in August, and carried my camera back pack which weighed a lot more than that.
However, a back pack and a small roller case may be pushing it a bit.

I bought my tickets " on-line" and paid the extra for luggage up to 15 kg.

With regards the connection, you still have to collect your luggage then go up a level to international check in. All you need is your plane to be delayed and then you start running out of time. The choice is yours..

Air Asia has a reputation for delayed flights. If things were on time, it would be cutting it close, as you have to pick up your luggage and then re-check it, then go through passport control and security to the International departures.

my air asia flights have mostly been on time or early, but there is of course always the chance of delayed flights...

if you do carry-on i would not see it as a problem if the flights are relatively on time... checked luggage might be a problem..

i noticed earlier this year that air asia is relaxing a bit about luggage and carryons are not a big problem and they never weigh them...i would go for it...
