Air Asia in Thailand

I'm trying to book flights for Bangkok, Chiang Rai, Phuket trip. Air Asia seems to have the best prices. Should I have some reliability concerns? Are there better options?

Air Asia is a budget airline so it has all of the advantages and disadvantages of a budget airline.

Advantages: prices are low

Disadvantages: low luggage allowance and high charges for overweight luggage.
no assigned seating
if you miss your flight for any reason, you have to buy a new ticket

Whether other options are better for you depend on a number of things:

if you have a lot of luggage, you may want to fly Thai

if you have some close connections, a full-service airline will rebook you on the next flight if you missed your connection

if you have a number of legs you want to fly, an airpass from Thai or Bangkok air may make good sense for you

Kathie---Thanks for the info on the airpass. I checked with Thai Air and their Discovery Pass looks like it will work great for us.

we love them...within the last month we have flown to K/L and on to bali with them---simply fantastic...no concerns at all....monday we will fly to phuket with them and back in about 2 weeks....they beat every asian airline we have flown on...

MAKE SURE HOWEVER THAT YOU PAY THE EXTRA ~$2. for express boarding....this allows you on the plane first---open seating

and they are very strict about the luggage allowance....i have paid $27 and later $50 for our excess....they do not weigh carry ons however....but they do watch what you carry on....

to me the difference in price is worth it even with the added expense of luggage costs....

its about $5. per kilo (2.2 lbs)

we left lots of things in our hotel in bkk for pick up on return--free

Bob one thing i wanted clarifying on AA, when you go to pay there is an option to prepay the checked bagagge. si if i picked 3 bags (between the 2 of us) would that mean i would get 45kg of luggage allowance? and does it have to be equally split bewteen the 3 bags?

loving your updates

i am not sure but i doubt it would allow 3 bags for free....i think it refers to the supplemental fee for baggage for res made after april 21, 2008...they tried to make me pay it until i showed my res were way before that.....its not much really...
