Air Asia
Can anyone advise me on the safety record of Air Asia.
I am trying to get from Hong Kong (considering flying out of Macau) to Phuket. The flights seem to be around 700.00 on Thai airlines, but less than half the price on Air Asia. I am flying with my whole family (my 3 young children), and of course I don't want to put my children at any risk. I can't find any safety info on Air Asia. Is it a reputable airline? Is it safe? Thank you--Joanne |
I've flown them several time for the domestic Thailand sector and have had no problem with safety concern. They do tend to delay a lot for the domestic flight!
You can check the airline safety record on the web but I'm not sure which website offer the most reliable information. |
I have used the services with them, there is no saftety concern but it feels just not comfortable. I don't prefer to fly with Air Asia because it is free seating (unassign seat) not much comfortable.

Air Asia has only been in business for about a year so possibly no figures aree available. They are a budget airline, but must still conform to standards of safety, if not punctuality.

I haven't seen or heard anything bad about Air Asia in terms of safety. Have heard about delays and lack of comfort, but what airline doesn't get those types of complaints. If you book early, their prices are excellent.
They have been doing business since 2001. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AirAsia_timeline |
Air Asia are not 'that new', tyey have been around quite a few years now. As a budget carrier they have opened up many routes and as long as you are aware of baggage allowance, not available to thru connect to other carriers and sorry to say sometimes delays, then for the price they are good value.
Viva Macao fly direct from Macau to Phuket with wide-body 767's, takes about 3 hrs 40. http://www.flyvivamacau.com/ |
I've flown with them many times. Most recently was 2 flights last week. They have the youngest fleet in Asia. A mix of brand new A320 and older B737-300. They are phasing out the Boeings.
Be careful to read the baggage allowance restrictions. Our bags were both slightly over the 15kg limit and they let us go. Many others were not so fortunate. |
