advise on restaurants..
 

any suggestions for rustic,quaint places to eat which also have a veg menu while in Bangkok and Chiang mai.While in BK we will be staying at D'ma pavilion so any suggestions arnd the place and in CM will be at baan orapin.

most all thai restaurants will provide veggie menu for you...

tongue thai in back of both the oriental hotel and OP Place is small and quite nice...great food reasonable price...

harmonique, soi 34, new road not far from oriental and shangri-la hotels is unique and has excellent food...

We stayed at the D'Ma Pavilion in April and really liked the local flavor of the neighborhood, as well as the hotel itself. We would not hesitate to stay there again. That said, the only downside is the lack of nearby places to eat, other than the countless make-shift stalls lining the sidewalks. I suppose you could call them quaint and rustic! They smelled wonderful, but we were very hesitant to give them a try. We did eat dinner in the hotel restaurant once or twice, and really, it wasn't too bad! Inexpensive, fresh and tasty. Usually, however, we headed out by cab or skytrain for our evening meals.

Restaurant for Birthday & Last Night in Bangkok?

I have read so many of the comments on this website, they are all so helpful, but if there was an all time best restaurant for a special dinner what would it be?

We ate at Mezzaluna at the Dome last time we were in Bangkok (could not get in to Sirocco) so have seen the beautiful view of the city.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Also happy to hear about how lovely the Yaang Come Village is as had booked in before the hotel opened!

I have several suggestions for "special" restaurants:

Peking Duck at the China House (next to the Oriental). Best Peking Duck I've ever had! Impeccable service. About US$44 for Peking duck for 2, Jasmine tea and a shared dessert.

Mahanaga - Excelent Thai food in a lovely atmosphere, eat indoors or out, staff are dressed in lovely costumes, gracious service. About US$47 included two entrees, two beers, mineral water, a shared appetizer or dessert.
