Advice needed for East Coast Malaysia
Hi
Need advice with a couple of things! Planning first time visit to Malaysia in September and itinerary so far is as follows: KL - 1 night Kota Bharu - 1 night Perhentian - 3 nights Lang Tengah - 2 nights Redang - 3 nights Kuala Terranganu - 1 night Then have a few nights spare and am hoping to visit Taman Negara - does anyone know best way of getting there from Kuala Terranganu? Also any advice of hotels in Kota Bharu, Kuala Terranganu and Taman Negara very welcome! Thanks Emma |
You can check in a budget clean and friendly :Lee Guesthouse in Kota Bharu Town Malaysia.
The guesthouse owner Mr.Lee is friendly and helpful. The guestrooms clean and spaciously decorated and fitted with air conditon. The bathroom are equiped with bubble jet water heaters. The living room are fitted with 7stations Tv channels and VCD recorder is available for the guests who are intersted in viewing the movies. The cooking facilities are also available for the guest who like to cook their light meal. My family has enjoyed the stays in the guesthouse.I strongly recommends for a family travellers or a small group of travellers (10-12 people) to stay at the guesthouse. Interested :please email [email protected] or telephone No:6017-9806638 or fax No:609-7479668 |
First, the last poster, GHL89882020, seems to me to be the guesthouse owner pushing his own hotel.
We have been to Khota Bharu, Redang, and Kuala Terrenganu. What price range are you looking for? In Kota Bharu, the night market for dining is excellent. In the morning, go to the food market, it's extraordinary. I don't think you can get to Taman Negara from KT. |
To get to Taman Negara, you first need to get to Jerantut/Kuala Tembling to take the 3-hour boat ride up the river to the park. Jerantut/Kuala and Taman Negara are quite a bit south of Kuala Terranganu and are in Pahang State. From Kuala Terranganu it would take you 7-8 hours to drive to Jerantut, and a longer bus or train ride. Take a look at ktmb.com.my for train schedules, you might find bus schedules at http://www.plusliner.com/index2.html. The closest major city to the park is actually Kuantan where you could get a bus or taxi to Jerantut in 2-3 hours.
For info on getting to the park from Kuala Tembling and for lodging and other info, take a look at www.taman-negara.com for basic information. You could also go to Taman Negara first from KL, it is about a 4 hour taxi or bus ride and then the 3-hour boat ride. To the best of my knowledge, if you want to stay in the park, there is only one company which has the lodging concession for lodging in the park (kind of like national parks in the western US). Take a look at the website. Can you give me a budget for hotels. Also, get the Lonely Planet Guide, they do SE Asia better than Fodors and Frommers, IMO. Their high end reccos are usually very good value for money. If you can, you might want to fly directly from KL to Khota Bahru and skip the 1 night in KL on your way out. Unless you are staying right at the airport, to go into KL for only 1 night is a long trip on top of (I assume) a long international flight. If you want to see KL you can save it until your return flight when you could maybe spend 2 nights, see more of the city and justify the longish trip into the city from the airport. |
