I've stayed a Cetrepoint Silom, which is almost on the river and a VERY quick stroll to the skytrain. HUGE rooms and some do have river views but the balconies are where the airconditioning compressors sit,so NOT very peaceful if someone in the room has the air turned on.

I have looked at several of the other Centrepoint properties but not the one on Suk10.

We are looking at the Mayfair Marriott Apartments for our next stay in Bangkok. It is in between Central Chidlom and Lumphini Park, possibly a 10 minute walk to either and less than 500m from 2 skytrain stations.

Centrepoint on soi 10 is very nice, according to my friend kuranosuke; but I prefer to walk to the skytrain rather than ride the tuk tuk (which I might have to wait for). I'll still stick with AS until something better comes along. I'm watching that newly vacated lot between sois 4 and 6, where once stood an abandoned concrete structure, which is now gone. Curious to see what will be in its place! Maybe a new serviced apartment building?

we loved marriott mayfair... the pool there is unique...on the top floor overlooking the city and mostly covered, but still feels open air...

breakfast was good and we absolutely love the location...lang suan is a fantastic street for restaurants, shopping, centralness and ease of getting around with skytrain nearby and a supermarket almost next door..

i agree with bob on marriott mayfair. i've stayed there, and yes, its in the middle of of the block. very nice property.

i enjoyed the morning walk to lumpini park. i did it as an exercise regime for weight control, but once i got to the park, and saw all the street vendors, i think i ingested more calories than i burned off.

rhkkmk Oct 2nd, 2011 08:49 AM

btw ken, where haven't you stayed in bkk?

simpsonc510 Oct 2nd, 2011 10:59 AM

Ken has stayed EVERYWHERE in BKK... lol.
Ken, I know that you enjoy your morning walks, as you and J walked down to the MARKET (think food, Bob) every morning at Kailua-Kona.

Just kidding... it was a lovely walk!

kuranosuke Oct 5th, 2011 03:26 PM

bob, after your question, i decided to count all the different hotels i've stayed in bangkok.

i have stayed in at least 21 different hotels. some excellent, some good, some not so good.

hotel cho cho. lol.

Hanuman Oct 5th, 2011 03:33 PM

Ken does the 21 include all the love hotels?

dogster Oct 5th, 2011 03:55 PM

Yup, Ken - stays of less than an hour don't count.

simpsonc510 Oct 5th, 2011 05:04 PM

Dogster!!! How are you!!! Did you finish your float trip down the Nile? Welcome back here. When are you heading back to BKK?
Carol

kuranosuke Oct 5th, 2011 05:18 PM

love hotels??they have love hotels in bangkok? my word!

dog, i have the 10 rule. if i don't stay for more than 10 minutes, i not only don't count that as a hotel stay, but i ask for my money back. just like playing golf, the 10 rule, if my tee shot doesn't go beyond 10 yards in a straight line, i don't count that shot, and i tee off again.

simpsonc510 Oct 5th, 2011 05:26 PM

Hi Ken!!! Aloha. Are you home? I'm heading off to TPA early in the morning... yes, yet another BEACH scene... :))

Wish you'd consider heading back to BKK in the next 2 weeks. A 'bunch' of us will be there. Brad has his ticket now. I know, I know... he just got BACK from there. (isn't that the way YOU travel as well???)

Love hotels... aren't those the ones that travellers LOVE to stay in? They get 4 or 5 stars ratings. The rates are cheap. Everyone LOVEs to stay in them. Nice amenities. Great pools. Spas. Like Bob LOVEs his Marriott?? I'm SURE this is what you mean about BKK LOVE hotels... :))

hawaiiantraveler Oct 5th, 2011 05:36 PM

Cliquish people

It's why I rarely post

Thank you for the love hotel definition. I had wondered what they were.

kuranosuke Oct 5th, 2011 06:02 PM

carol, am i home? where else would i be??

now, does one go to a love hotel alone? never been to one, so i don't know the routine.

ht, you're not talking about bob and carol i hope.

dogster Oct 5th, 2011 06:44 PM

I haven't even left yet Carol. Slow down. Next Monday [if my Indian visa arrives in time]. Watch for riots in Cairo. Guess where I'll be.

dog, nice style.

I like Centrepoint Silom because it`s near the Skytrain and the river....ask for a room overlooking the water...it`s a fabulous view, especially at night. The rooms are spacious with all the amenities and the breakfast on the rooftop is very nice, as is the price. .
