Activation of JR Pass
 

Hi,

We arrive in Tokyo around 230pm and are planning to stay in the Park Tokyo Hotel. I didn't see a JR route to the hotel from the Narita airport so I was thinking to not activate my pass until the next day.

But I'm having troubles figuring out what's the closest JR office that can activate the pass to our hotel. I think it's the Toyko station. Does anyone know of one that's closer and walking distance?

Our trip is 8 days so it's either don't use it the day we land or the day will leave. We are leaving from Osaka via Kyoto so it seemed better to use it on the last day.

Your statement makes no sense at all. The Narita Express is a JR route and goes to Tokyo Station, where you can catch a cab or take the Yamanote line to the station that's thisclose to your hotel.

I'd do it right at the airport upon arrival - Narita or Haneda, whichever applies to you.

If you go to your hotel in Tokyo first, then there are exchange offices at Tokyo station, Ueno station, Shinjuku station, Shibuya station etc. Read the details from the list.

You can do it on arrival at the airport and tell them you want the activation date to be whatever you want it to be.

You are correct. The closest exchange office to your hotel is Tokyo station.

It would be a 30 min walk. Or walk 7 min to Shiimbashi station and then 4 min on Yamanote Line to Tokyo eki. (according to google maps)

BigRuss - haha you are absolutely right. I was so focused on what info Google Maps had provided me that it didn't occur to me to just do that.

You don't give your whole itinerary, but if you have a single open jaw ticket and aren't returning to Tokyo, you would not get your money's worth with a JR Pass unless you make several small side trips or one big one. Going on a day trip or overnight to Hiroshima/Miyajima from Kyoto or Osaka for example would do it.

There are more cheaper alternatives to get to Tokyo from Narita than in Kansai to KIX, so it would be better to activate your pass to use from your 2nd day and then you could take the Haruka train to KIX. From Narita one cheap alternative is the 1000 yen bus:
