Accomodations in Ubud
 

We are traveling to Bali on our honeymoon and would like to stay 4 nights in Ubud. <BR>What resorts do you recommend ($100-$200 per night)? And why?

my favorite place to stay in the midrange is the chedi which is about 20 minutes drive from ubud. the setting overlooking the ayung river is profoundly beautiful. (the same view as the 4 seasons & amandari at half the price.) other plusses are a wonderful pool, good food in lovely surroundings, and overall a high sense of aesthetic. the rooms themselves are smallish, but well designed with either a little terrace downstairs or a balcony upstairs. if you can afford it (around $300-350) go for a suite, which is really a large room with a wraparound terrace. very private. the staff are helpful, there's a shuttle bus to ubud, and there's tons to do in the area. also an inhouse spa. <BR>

You would recommend the Chedi over a hotel like the Ibah also?

Hi there, <BR> <BR> Having worked and travelled all over the world, one of the most pleasant hotels I have ever stayed it is The Hotel Tjampuhan in the northern part of Ubud. <BR> <BR> Here for just about $100 per night you can have a split-level villa overlooking the river creek. The villas are big, with beautiful Balinese style balconies equipped with the most comfortable beds imaginable. Inside there is an airconditioned bedroom and a large living room furnished in traditional style. One feels one is living alone in a tropical jungle. <BR>Room service is summoned by banging on a hollowed out carving on the balcony - each villa having a different sound. <BR> <BR>The reception area and restaurant is a magnificently carved open style royal reception room overlooking the creek, as this was once the home of the King of Ubod. Several of the villas on the site also have connections with the art world, having been the homes of a number of well known European artists based in Bali during the first half of the last century. <BR> <BR>I highly recommend it.

I would recommend Tjampuhan too, for the money---it's a bigger hotel that ibah--maybe 100 rooms?--but it costs less than half of ibah's normal rates--they charge less than $100, while ibah wanted more than $200...... <BR> <BR>I think staying in town is easier thatn dealing with transpost, unless the hotel has good shuttle service into town.....
