Accommodations in Siem Reap

Hello!
We would like to visit Angkor Wat near the end of Nov. and need to know if there are any budget hotels that we can book via the Internet. Many thanks!!!

Not sure what price you consider budget, but I highly recommend Angkoriana Hotel. Website and booking at www.angkorianahotel.com. Doubles are about US$50 per night, including breakfast for 2. Hotel is new, very comfortable, fridge in room, good air con, wonderful helpful staff. There are other, older accommodations adjacent for about half the price as well. We have stayed there twice and really like it.

If you are looking for something even less expensive, you could stay where we did, the Marina Villa Guesthouse. It's $15 a night for an A/C room with bathroom and fridge.
I found out about it on this message board where I discovered the woman we used as our guide as well, Ponheary Ly. The guesthouse belongs to Ponheary's family.
You can reach her at [email protected]
If you want, you can see my journals and photos (including pix of Ponheary and the guesthouse) on our website
http://www.wired2theworld.com

Marilyn and Kristina,
Thank you so much for your help!!! It is so much easier booking for hotels by the internet. Any room under $50 a night will do for us. I'd like to know more about Siem Reap. Could I email you guys directly? Thanks again.

Hi Marilyn,
How far (walking distance) is Angkoriana Hotel from the Old French Quarter?
Thanks.

Hi Van -- I am not really an expert on Siem Reap, but I am glad to answer whatever questions I can. Yes, you can email me directly at the above address.

You could walk into town from the Angkoriana Hotel but it is a bit far as it is on the road to the temples, just past the Sofitel. We never walked, since our driver either drove us or we jumped on a couple of motor scooters for $1 each.

A car and driver is about $20/day and definitely the best way to see the temples. It is great to have the air con car to get back into in between trekking around the jungle. And your driver will most likely drive you around for as much of the day as you want, e.g., pick you up in the morning to go out to the temples, drop you off somewhere in town for lunch and wait for you, take you back to your hotel for a midday siesta, drive you back to the temples in the afternoon, drive you to dinner, etc.

Van-
Yes, you can email me directly, through my website listed in my posting above. I prefer not to put my email address here because of spam.
I'd be happy to answer any questions you have about Siem Reap.
