A week in Punjab, India! Is this doable?

Namaste all!

I am so happy to write this cause it means i will be visiting India again- now the fourth time. (been to Maharashtra, Goa, Agra, Kashmir, Delhi, Varanasi, Kolkata)

They have a sales to Amritsar via Scoots so I will be there in mid September.I understand there is not much to spread over 5 days, but I love exploring the city and learn its charms.I am an artist, poet and researcher of sacred spaces so anything of that sort bodes well.

"Someone suggested going straight to Dalhousie upon reaching amritsar"

You mean, miss Amritsar? Or put it all at end of your trip?

I do think it makes sense to put all of your Amritsar time at the end, that way you will be there for your flight out. I think it is unwise to try to get from Dharmsala to Amritsar for your flight on that last day.

A lot of mileage to cover in such a short period of time . . . do you have a car and driver? Here's my trip report from last June. Perhaps it will help you get a sense of the time it takes:

@calinurse - ah i meant yeah, shifting it to the back. But I don't feel comfortable for such a connection on the first day. I usually like to get a vibe of the arriving destination first.

@kathie I have also decided to skip Dharamshal for now. Seeing I will always keep coming back to India especially Kashmir. I am thinking of going there when I visit Manali, a dream place too.

@indianapearl Lovely, thank you for that! What a fantastic read.

Also, here is how I am structuring it now:

__________________________________________________ _______________

Day 1

5 September, 2016

arrives 12:55 PM

check in hotel near temple- Refresh and leave for Wagah border.

________

Day 2 6th Sept

morning sunrise - Golden temple, Jaliyawal barg, Durgiani temple.

Leave for Dalhousie via Pathankok. Lunch at around 1:00 pm ,rest

________

Day 3 7th Sept

Dalhousie tour- Subhash baoli, Satdhara,Punjpulla, evening at Gandhi chowk market

khajjar daytrip
________

Day 4 8th Sept

Dalhousie- daytrips/lakes?
________

Day 5 9th Sept

________

morning train from Dalhousie-Amritsar

last Night in Amritsar

________

Day 6 Return/ 10 September

Amritsar

flight to singapore at 14:10 PM

________________________________________

1) Now the thing is I am torn if I should add one more day to Amritsar, I feel Dalhousie has more to offer. Aside from Khajjar, where else can I find joy you reckon? I love lakes and beautiful sunsets.

2) Can I just buy the tickets from Amrtisar to Dalhousie/Pathankot the day before? Usually I do it thru clear trip but it seems the train only offer AC2 so there is no first class train? Or is that good enough? I just need a seat and a place to put my backpack.

Best,

ISkandar

You should definitely see Golden Temple both in evening and in the morning. Where could you fit in the evening? Maybe on your first night (if not too tired after flight and Atari/Wagagh border, or your last night. Seeing the temple lit at night, with all the people circling the pool, is rally fantsticf! Then in the morning, you want to leave time to see the kitchen, , and seeing all the people, and walking around the temple area, almost like a little village.

I can't help with Dalhousie--haven't been. Yes, for future trip, McLo and Manali trip (and Shimla10 combine nicely.

If you haven't already, check Indiamike with a search , and /or posting your question. You'll find far more answers there than here, abut Dalhousie, your trains, etc.
