I'm planning a trip to Sri Lanka for a bout 2 1/2 weeks in September. I have a few questions, maybe you can help me:
1. prices of accommodation. what prices should I expect for budget accommodation. I don't need A/C, or great breakfast. I need a clean place and friendly. even dorms might be ok

2. Adam's peak. I know september is off season, is it still possible to do the climb, or is it only done at the right season? is there a place to sleep at the top? I want to do the climb during the day and spend the night there

3. Yala national park. I've been to east Africa, the parks there are really expensive, how are the prices in Sri Lanka? and how is it done? I come there and join a group or go alone with a guide?

4. those of you who traveled by public transport, how was it? I have no intention of going with a private driver, and was wandering how easy/hard is it to get from place to place with a bus/train

Get a copy of the Lonely Planet Guide as it will give you lots of info about budget accommodations and transport. While there are a number of extensive reports on Sri Lanka here, all were pretty high end trips.

Yala is certainly much less expensive than the African Parks, but it's not cheap.
