Hanuman, thanks for your reports on the ground. I do hope this will resolve the situation for now.

Sounds like my trip is a go! (I really wasn't planning on NOT going... lol)

I really appreciate your on-site information, hanuman. Please let us know if there is anything else of note (or even if things get back to NORMAL in Bangkok... which I imagine they already are).

I've never been on this site before (as previously stated, I'm not well traveled). Looking forward to going on this trip now, thanks for all of the "live" reporting from those that are there right now. Not sure if this is "forum faux pas", but would anyone currently in Bangkok or heading there the same time as me and my girlfriend (April 30-May 11)like to get together for a drink and offer some trip tips for while we are in Asia?

Thanks again,
Derrick

Would love to catch up with you! I'll start a new thread on a GTG (that means a get-together) for BKK (Bangkok). Watch for it.

Seems like it has all cleared up in Bangkok with the red shirts abandoning their further action plans. Good idea in that their last ones did lose steam very quickly.

I arrived in Bangkok this morning. I was on the Diamond Princess coming down from the north. The captain did a fine job keeping us aware of the situation and we had CNN as well. He had a contigency plan if things turned for the worst. So far All seems OK. I do see some police/guard visibility. Mostly I see the local kids are having a lot of fun doing their thing with the water and some kind of paste in celebration of the Thai New Year.

Trackcoach...
You don't say which hotel/apartment you have selected. I'm trying to picture where soi 21 is. I do hope you are going to be located near a skytrain station. That is almost a MUST in Bangkok, as traffic can be troublesome. Maybe you are close to Asok BTS station?? #77 sounds waaaaaaay down the soi, IMO.
