progol, I hope you will be able to keep your original plan, but we understand how that goes. It is hard for either of us to take a vacation of this length. Most of our trips lately have not much more than 10 days, and the next two will only be a week each.

scrb11, yes, we did have Internet connectivity everywhere. It's something that's basically a requirement for us when booking, due to work (both of us) and evolving elderly parent matters (me). I wouldn't say the connectivity was perfect everywhere, but it was pretty reliable. Villa Borobudur is up a steep hill, so it was the closest to being "off the beaten path," but it really isn't. There is a very well established $1,000+ per night hotel just a kilometer or so away from it.

I'm not sure about the rain patterns for Singapore, but we picked Indonesia because we would be traveling in June and knew this would be the beginnings of the dry season. It was very hot and humid in Singapore, but sunny. The weather forecasts while we were there predicted a high chance of rain, but that never happened. Java was also warm and very humid, but we only experienced two brief showers, neither of which affected our plans. Bali was warm but noticeably more comfortable--and, again, just one brief shower while we were there. Ironically, it was about 85F and 99-percent humidity in Chicago yesterday and felt a lot like being back in Southeast Asia!

The more I read about Waisak / Vesak Day, the less I think I would like to participate in the procession ... although I might want to see it. But I think I would greatly enjoy seeing the release of the lanterns! Can you tell me how you managed that? Maybe what you've already written should make it clear, and if so, please forgive my confusion....

Unfortunately, we were bushed and didn't stay up for the lantern release (which was around 1:00 or 1:30 in the morning). It's one of those tough choices one always has to make on a travel adventure... stay up, or rest up!

We have a bit more time than you and were planning to take the train to Eastern Java and on to Bali from there. Can anyone tell me if it is possible to fly to Denpasar from Eastern Java? From what I am reading the ferry and bus is quite a haul.

Yes, you can fly from Eastern Java to Bali. Surabaya has the most connections, but Malang should have a few flights to Bali.
