A fantastic trip to Thailand and HongKong

For all the great information I got on this website, I wanted to give some highlights on our trip to help someone else. My husband and I and our 22 year old daughter flew to Hong Kong via Continental Airlines on Sunday Aug 26th. We stayed at the Salisbury YMCA - got the executive suite - walked into the most gorgeous view of the Hong Kong harbor. The Kowloon side was a great place to stay - a quick ride on the Star Ferry took you anywhere. We visited Landau island and the biggest sitting Buddha. The skyrail was not working, the only disappointment. Checked out the Hong Kong Museum on Wed (free)- great history of Hong Kong. Took the tram up Victoria Peak. Magnificant view. Lunch at the Peak (very expensive but good).
Off on Thai Air to Bangkok to meet my 20 year old daughter who is studying there. Stayed at the Shangri-La Kruthrep tower. Travel agent got a room on this exclusive tower at the price of a high up room of the other tower. Private butler, pool, drinks, brfst - absolutely lovely. Especially after a day or two touring Bangkok. What a crowded, noisy city - but full of beauty.
Up to Chaing Mai to Baan Orapin. Used a Thai Air Discovery pass (3 flights for $169 A lovely bed and breakfast. Met up with Sergeant Kai - our tour guide for 3 days. So worth it, he took us everywhere.
Off to Phuket - Sheraton Grande Laguna. Rented a car and realized that the Thai don't make very good maps, but we found it! Beautiful, stayed in a villa with great service. Not cheap though!
Then it was a plane ride back to Bangkok - one night at InterPlace ($30!) near the University my daughter was at. Then the plane back to Hong Kong - quick night at Holiday Inn express - fine for one night - no ambiance like the YMCA. And then home to NJ. Had a new 777 with ondemand movies and shows - certainly passed the 16 hours.
If anyone has any questions, I would be glad to answer, give opinions. What unique part of our world. I'm sure I will be back to see Cambodia/Laos/Vietnam someday.

It was very nice, very accomadating. We rented a car thinking we would need to get out of the complex and explore, but everything was there we needed. The pool is huge, the beach has a great massage vendor(much cheaper than the spa). We ate at 3 of the restaurants on the premise and felt they were all good. It's a resort, I said you could have plopped it on any island and it wouldn't have matter, except for the elephants that wander the property! The villas are special. Living room, kitchen, 2 bedrooms, balcony and service extraordinaire. Enjoy.
