6 Hours in Osaka, 12 Hours in Tokyo

Hello,

I'm going to be stuck in Osaka airport for 6 hours. I'd love to get out and see the city (briefly) in that time. Is this plausible?

On my way back home i will be in tokyo overnight. Ariving late afternoon and leaving the next morning. What should I do while i'm there?

Bonjour AustraliaZoolGreat,

sorry you haven't had any answer up to now.

1) Osaka:
Clearing immigration can take up to 1 hour, and going downtown Osaka 1 hour too, by train or bus. Same amount of time on the way back, that leaves you 2 hours for a quick visit or a good meal.

Here are a few websites for ideas of what to do and see :

2) Tokyo: depending on the time of your outgoing flight, you may consider staying around Narita airport (Narita Town). Do a search on this forum, Emd and a few others have posted about their recent experiences there, and check "Mike Newman's Narita Layover Page" for ideas and pointers: http://www.mgnewman.com/narita/

Thanks Florence. I will indeed be staying near Narita. I'll be at the Nikko Narita Hotel.

I'd been meaning to ask about this hotel too. The information my travel agent gave me says this hotel is 5 star. A quick search online shows links suggesting it is 3 star, 3.5 star and 4 star! So i'm utterly confused but not really worried.

Sounds like a quick trip into Osaka might be a little risky. If I get lost I might be in real trouble.

Nikko hotels aren't 5 star in the luxury sense, but they have all the services you'll need, are clean and nice enough.

cool. I'm happy enough with that.

14 hours from my departure now and i've become ill. I recall that singapore airport had a device measuring body temperature and they weren't allowing ppl to travel whilst sick due to the SARS scare.

Will they be doing this sort of thing in Osaka?

I have heard that Japanese airports either have started to have some sort of device to detect fevers...or are going to have some sort of device...because of bird flu. Can't say for sure, though...last time we came into Japan (August, 2005) there was nothing.

Just in case this information is usefull to somebody else, when I entered osaka airport they had a quarantine area for people to report themselves to if they weren't feeling well. I did this and was asked to wear a medical mask for the remainder of my time in the airport.
