6 days in Vietnam where would you go?
 

I'm planning a trip with my 3 girls to vietnam as a side trip with bangkok. We have 6 days.
Where would you go? We will be traveling the first week of August. We are beach girls but would love to shop and get a feel of the country. I was considering flying into Saigon and going up the coast to Nga trang and go up from there. I understand it will be very hot and humid. Your advise will be much appreciated.

Three days Saigon and either Nga Tran or Hoi An another town near the beach for 3 days.

I think Hanoi is a more interesting city than Saigon. There are day trips out of Hanoi, such as to Halong Bay as well. If I were you, I'd base myself in Hanoi and do a day trip or two.

I agree Hanoi is more interesting than Saigon. Halong Bay is a wonderful trip. To me it was a long one for the day so booked an overnight.

I'm a little conflicted....
I would like to visit
Hue, hoi an, nha trang and make my way down to Saigon and fly out of there.
In that case, Hanoi will be out of the way.
Can I possibly do this in 6 days?

When I was doing my research for Vietnam there seemed to be those that preferred the North versus those who prefer the south! I guess Hue and Hoi An are in the middle. If that is where you want to go and 6 days is all you have then I think you should go for it! I found Hue to be very interesting with all the former Imperial Palaces and Hoi An is a real gem. Personnaly I prefer Saigon to Hanoi and there are very interesting day trips out of Saigon but I doubt you will have time.
You will get a good feel for the country and find good beaches in Hoi An and Nha Trang.The drive from Hue to Hoi An is spectacular.
