48 hours in BKK

I have two full days in Bangkok b4 linking up with an adventure travel tour group. Before heading North to CM, the tour will do the Grand Palace, Emerald Buddha and a boat trip on the canals.
Any must-do dinner suggestions for a single middle aged female? I've traveled a lot on business and w/ family, and still feel uncomfortable dining alone in certain restaurants. Thanks!

Can i suggest Ton Pho? It's right on the river front and the food is excellent! Its not fancy at all and is open on the sides with lazy fans overhead. If dining alone, you could easily spend your dinner wistfully gazing out over the river, watching the boats and not seem out of place. It's very friendly. I've reviewed it on my site in the Thailand section.

what hotel are you staying at?

Thanks for the suggestion! Ton Pho sounds like a good spot. I'll check out your website.

I am staying at the D'MA Pavilion Hotel which is supposed to be in the heart of the business district.

it is in the middle of the city but not on the skytrain route unfortunately...it is on the north side of sukhumvit which allows you easy access to all the restaurant in that area....if you tell us what kind of food you want we can make better suggestions...i will make a few for you ...all will require a taxi ride....

in bkk you will not fee strange eating alone....many business people do every day...

i would make sure i got out of the hotel to eat for some really good meals however....food is cheap..

le delat indochine, soi 23 sukhumvit--vietnamese

baan khanitha, also soi 23, sukhumvit--thai

L'Opera, soi 30, sukhumvit

gallery gourmet, off soi 39 sukhumvit--american and international

crepes and co....soi 12 sukhumvit---an excellent choice for a single...crepes of all kinds...on other side of sukhumvit however....next to caggages and condoms which many people like--thai

I love ethnic food, particularly Asian, which is one of the main reasons I'm going to Thailand! (First time). Thanks for your many suggestions!! Had been recommended to go to 'cabbages and condoms' by a co-worker, but thought that might not be my style....
The place next door to it sounds good, too.
taxi is fine, as I'll probably be tired of riding the skytrain by the end of the day.

I guess I still don't understand why anyone who only has 2 days in Bangkok would go to a place that serves crepes which you can get all over America. With the great asian food why not try some of it.

although i thought the food at cabbages and condoms was only so so, the place is quite nice, especially the garden...

Fortunately I'll have an additional day or two in Bangkok with the adventure tour, so can try some more places to Eat. (The recommendation for C & C was within a larger list of places to go, not the "one place" if you have limited time)
Gotta go eat Turkey today. In Louisiana with our parents.
Thx again!
