4 days in Kyushu

My husband & I are planning our first trip to Kyushu in Feb 2008. We're interested in pottery, art, tofu, scenic places like traditional Japanese gardens, the countryside etc.

We will be based in Fukuoka and intend to make day trips to other parts of Kyushu.

My preliminary itinerary include:

* Fukuoka/Dazaifu (2 days?)

Visit Fukuoka Art Museum & Asian Art Museum, Hakata Machiya Folk Museum, Canal City Hakata etc.

I'm interested in Komyozenji's stone garden, but wonder if it's worth going to Dazaifu just for this as I'm not too keen on the Tenmangu, having visited the Kitano Tenmangu in Kyoto earlier this year.

BTW, has anyone dined at Ume no Hana ”~‚Ì‰Ô (tofu and yuba restaurant)? Is it good?

* Karatsu/Genkai/Imari (1 day?)

I'd like to see the pottery in Karatsu and Imari and the rice terrace in Genkai + lunch at Kawashima Tofu Restaurant in Karatsu. Is it possible to do them all in 1-day?

* 4th day - possibly Beppu

We'd like to see The Hells of Beppu, Beppu's bamboo crafts, and have lunch cooked by hotspring steam or gDango-jiruh (dumpling miso soup) - any restaurant recommendation?

Finally, would it be worthwhile getting the Kyushu rail pass for this itinerary?

Thanks very much for any help. Have a Happy New Year!
