30th Birthday 2wkTrip to Thailand w/toddler-Feb2013

So I know this is may be a very similar topic to some, but mine has a bit of a twist. I am traveling with a 3yr old. I would love to travel without her; however my husband and I just dont have the support. She has been out of the country mulitple times since 6months so she is not new to this; however i need some help. There are so many great places to visit while in Thailand and I want to see as much as I can. My husband and I thought about Singapore, Malaysia, Phuket or Krabi (for the beaches). We are open to taking the train/charter a plane to get to some of these places if need be. I am wondering if anyone can help figure out the best places to visit during our 2 week travel. We love sightseeing, love spending time at beaches, some shopping, trying a Safari, and of course FOOD. LOL We are flying out of the East Coast. I would love any feedback, which could include places to stay and possible tours.

It sounds like for sure you want some beach time, and there are plenty of beautiful beaches in Thailand and Malaysia. I'm a bit confused by your reference to a safari. Are you thinking of visiting Malaysian Borneo to see wildlife? Really, no where in the area offers anything like a safari, but there are opportunities to see orangutans in the wild in Sabah.

For sightseeing and shopping, you'll want time in Bangkok. Singapore shopping is now very expensive, but there are bargains to be had in Thailand, especially in local goods (silks, sapphires, crafts).

In general, you will have more time to enjoy and spend less time in transit if you choose fewer stops. With two weeks, I'd suggest choosing three places. You could have a lovely time all in Thailand, but you could choose two Thailand locations (a beach, Bangkok) and add a place in Malaysia like Georgetown, Penang for food and the world heritage site.

If you want to see wildlife in Borneo that is do-able as one stop. I think I'd cut Singapore for this trip, as you'll have a big city experience in Bangkok.

Thanks so much for your response. I saw a Night Safari some where advertised in Singapore. You may have a point to cut that out, but will do more research on Borneo. I have read people traveling from Bangkok to Chiang Mai and Koh Phi Phi( for beach). I also heard that people would cut Chiang Mai. Thanks for all the input Kathie. I appreciate it.

Ah, the night safari in Singapore is a popular attraction, but I wouldn't call it a real safari - it is an experience in a zoo.

If you wanted an all Thailand trip, Bangkok, a beach and Chiang Mai would be reasonable. You might consider substituting Chiang Rai (specifically, the Anantara at the Golden Triangle) for Chiang Mai.
