Many thanks to contributors to my original post and other posts that I've read. Through lots of research, I think we've come up with our itinerary. Please note, we are on our honeymoon, but what to see and do lots, maintain a decent pace, but not kill ourselves. I would welcome thoughts/comments.

Sien Reap -> May 1-5 (3 days sightseeing)

Fly to Thailand Beach area (likely Phuket) -> May 5 - 10 (4 days sightseeing)

Chiang Rai (fly in directly or fly to Chiang Mai and ground transportation TBD) -> May 10-13 (2 days sightseeing)

Chaing Mai -> May 13-17 (4 days sightseeing)

Bangkok -> May 17-22 (5 days sightseeing)

I would replace Chiang Mai time with Lunag Prabang which is an enchanted city and will be very special for a honeymoon. You may need to rearrange tho as LP is connected to Bkk and maybe SR. Frankly, there is not a huge amount of sightseeing in CM - it has some lovely resort hotels and good shopping.

For your beach time you might want to considor some of the many alternatives, weather is not so good Phuket and from reading your other plans it might not really suit, I am guessing here but from what you have mentioned so far I got the idea you might not be into a somewhat dare I say touristy area, there are lots of islands and beaches and certainly in May the Gulf Islands would have the edge on weather. Samui is also a busy touristy Island but other islands in the area such of Koh Phangan and Koh Tao offer restful relation and beach plus scuba and snorkeling, nightlife is joining with others and loocals to bake prawns on the beach. Koh Chang and maybe Koh Samet might be of interest also plus the coastline that is my persoanl favorite down the coast from bangkok towards where the boats head to Koh Tao and Samui, this though is far more rural Thailand with local Thai life, just a suggestion.

Thanks all for the feedback, please keep it coming.

I do however, need to book the NAmerica to SEAsia flight and return very soon (like today or tomorrow).

We can work out the "meaty middle part" of the itinerary over the next week or so.

My question is: do you see any major transportation issues flying into Cambodia, then going to one of the other beach areas after we're done in Siem Reap. I am assuming from Siam Reap we could fly to Bangkok, then connect anywhere.

And yes, JamesA, we are into more of the local flavor things, not just the "must do" tourist activities.

Alanna,

I'm also headed on a 3 week Asian honeymoon and have planned for Hong Kong, Shenzen, Bangkok, Singapore, Mumbai and Goa.

The trip gives a great balance of city nightlife, cultural exploring, rich history, loads of shopping (cheap!!) as well as some good R+R on the beaches of the Arabian Sea.

Cheers.

I
