3 hours in Tokyo?

DH and I have a 3 hour layover at Narita on our way to Bangkok (and on the way back). Anything close enough to the airport worth seeing/eating? Anything IN the airport worth seeing/eating? I just hate to waste the only time I'll be in Tokyo in the near future doing nothing.

3 hours is not enough time to do anything but maybe have a meal in the airport before you have to check into your next flight. Certainly not enough time to leave and go to Narita,imho.

Aloha!

It doesn't sound like you will have time to leave the airport.

A suggestion...
You can purchase a NWA Worldclub pass for $85 (60-day membership and you can bring a guest) or $40 (one-day membership with no guest privileges). The Narita Worldclubs are supposedly quite nice and you don't have to be flying Northwest in order to use them.

Kate,

Which airlines are you using? I think you can get quick massage/reflexology on the airside. Someone also commented about a sushi restaurant on the airside.

With 3hrs, you really don't have time to get to the airside (where there are better choice of shops and restaurants).

We're on American and then Japan Airlines. What exactly is the "airside"? I'm not familiar with the term.

Look here for Narita info

See what terminal your plane arrives and departs from

Hi

No, I don't think there will be time to go into Tokyo at least. Are you just going to Bangkok or are you checking out more of Thailand?

We're going to be in Bangkok, Chiang Mai and Phuket (for diving).

I guess being able to say I ate sushi IN Japan will have to do!

Airside = before immigration/customs
Landside = after immigraiton/customs
(as an arriving passenger).

AA/JL use Terminal 2, which is bigger. There are shops and restaurants in an arcade on the landside, including a sushi bar. The only drawback is, I think most of the restaurants are on the landside so you'll need to clear immigrations if you want a good sushi. There is a reflexology/massage place right after security check, if I recall.

NRT still has outdoor observation decks in their terminals. If you're interested in planes or getting some outside air.
