3-hour Layover in Manila - Fees?
For an upcoming trip, I have 3 hours layover at MNL, coming from Taipei and going onto Sydney. Do I need to have any cash ready for any of the airport fees?

Kathie, while it is true that most international airports tack the fees onto the ticket prices, that is not true for MNL. I know the amount of terminal fee is PHP 750 for international flights (they take Philippine Peso or American Dollar, in cash only), collected prior to the gate. However I am trying to determine if the fee is required for everybody departing from MNL, or if the fee is waived when the transit is under 12 hours and within the same terminal.

If you remain in the transit area and do not pass through customs and immigration I don't think you should have to pay any departure tax. I have never paid a departure tax when I was in transit in other countries. Make sure you bags are booked all they way to Sydney though.
I pulled this off another travel forum but if you copy and paste the below statement it shows up on several links.
http://globalnation.inquirer.net/ann...S-TERMINAL-FEE
"The following passengers shall be exempt from payment of the AUC: Infants/Children below two years of age, Transit Passengers, Refugees, Pilgrims, Airline Cabin Crews, Overseas Filipino Workers, Athletes and Sports Officials, Deportees, and others authorized by the law. Various documents shall be presented with the Boarding Pass of the passenger who is qualified for exemption."
Just in case you do have to pay the fee is 750 pesos and they will also take US dollars.

SirHalberd, thanks for the info. I just got back from my trip and indeed there is no airport fee as a transit passenger. However the transit area is not very well designated, so one must follow instructions from Philippine Airline reps exactly (don't rely on whatever airport staff say). Facilities are a bit...limited. This is not somewhere that I would want to transit again.
