CFW- wonderful report! Thanks so much for sharing. We are going in 32 days and it was making me even more excited!

Had a few questions for you:

How did you find Tan? I would love to have a guide as well when we go through temples etc. in BKK. Do you have her contact info? Did she have a driver or did you have to hire that out as well?

How far was the tiger temple from BKK? That sounded like SOOO much fun. What was the cost?

What type of room did you stay in at Pimalai? We are thinking about staying there. Did you get a good rate?

How much did the snorkeling tour cost you? What places did you see and which were your favorite stops? Did the reosrt set that up or an outside company?

Sorry for so many questions...but you are such a vaulable resouce having been in Thailand recently..post-tsunami.

Thanks a ton!

Glad you enjoyed the trip report. You will love the real thing even more! We learned abut Tan on this forum. You can e-mail her at [email protected]. We used taxi/river boats with her - car & driver didn't really make sense to use in BKK because taxis are so cheap & convenient, and when possible the best way to get around is by river boat and skytrain. Tan made arrangements for car & driver to go to River Kwai and the tiger temple on the way back from Kwai. It is about an hour or two from BKK. As to the Pimalai, we upgraded to a pavillion suite, which I think was about 11,000 baht. Each pavillion suite is like a separate small villa with a large patio/deck overlooking the beach & sea, a large bedroom with good lighting, and a lovely comfy "living room" with sliding glass doors all around. The bathroom was huge with separate bath, shower and a patio with an outdoor shower that I loved. The regular rooms, which are also very nice and have terraces, were about 8500 baht, I think. We didn't go snorkeling or scuba diving, so I can't give you much information about that other than that the Pimalai had a dive center & we read a description about the various offerings, but in the end were too lazy to go. Couldn't tear ourselves away from the beach, the pools & the spa, although my husband did take the Pimalia's small sailboat out a couple of times -- and capsized a couple of times, and had to be "rescued" by the lifeguards at the beach who were very nice. He had fun & I had LOLs.
