2 Weeks Thailand Honeymoon

In final stages of planning our 2 week honeymoon to Thailand but this is what we have come up with thus far....

Nov 1-4 Bangkok. Hotel: Peninsula.

Nov 4-7 Chiang Mai. Hotel: Anatara. How is this hotel? It looks like it is in a good location and on the river which may be great for the festival of lights. We watned to stay at 137 Pillars or Rachamankha but they are booked. We will be here for the Festival of Lights so super excited about this. Per my research it looks like the action will be near the bridge? Any suggestions for getting the most out of this experience?
Nov 7 -13 Krabi or Phi Phi. We are undecided here and this is probably the least amount of research I have done for this trip. If we go to Krabi, we may stay at the Ritz. If Phi Phi, we are going to stay at Zeavola. Which would be a better experience? We love the beach but we are city people so like activities and socializing. If we stay in Krabi, can we take day trips to Phi Phi, maya bay, etc.

Thanks for your time and input! I love this forum!!

It is wonderful that you will be Chiang Mai for Loy Krathong. I do love being in Thailand for that celebrations, though we are always in Bangkok for it.

I think you can't go wrong with either beach choice. I would say, however, that if you want more activity, more options, stay in Krabi. PhiPhi is small and while many love it, given what you have said, you might feel confined by the small island. I would suggest not visiting PhiPhi as a day trip, as you only see the worst of it - overcrowded by daytrippers. The only activity I recommend in the area is the John Gray Sea Canoes trips.

If you are city people (as we are) you will want more time in Bangkok - my favorite city in the world.

The ritz is a unique property, but I think I prefer it's neighbor the amari vogue... Both are remote...

Phi Phi is available as a day trip. We spent very little time on the island, opting to rent a longtail boat to take us to Maya Bay instead. Maya was not included in our day trip. This was in 2001, so I'm sure tours have changed. Plus, we went at a time when water was choppier (July) and you should have better weather.

I agree with the idea of staying around Krabi, which is really a beautiful area, where you will have plenty to keep you busy, not just a beach vacation. There are some nice tours, one of which is by boat, visiting some of the very small beautiful offshore islands.

Please stay away from Elephant Trekking camps as well as riding them. All Elephants are extremely
Abused, no food, beatings. The tourists have no idea what goes on behind the scene.
Really a bad situation there.

We finalized some plans - we have everything booked for bangkok and chiang mai. We are looking at Amari Vogue (thanks rhkkmk for suggestion), Ritz, Tubkaek krabi boutique. Or would it be better to stay at Railey beach? I assume it's best to stay put for the week rather than stay a few nights in Krabi, a few nights at another island? We may be exhausted after our travels from the US and around bangkok and chiang mai.

It's so hard to decide - there are so many areas to stay /visit/ explore in Thailand!

I'd also like to know what types of excursions we should go on!

@zoso I've heard about the treatment of the elephants. So sad! Altought we would love to spend time with the elephants, it would be great to know if there is a place where they are treated well.

You should go see elephants... The elephant place near Chiangmai Mai is one of the best.. Someone here will give you the name..

I would stay at one place..

Hire a wooden boat and go to hog island for the day--- lots of fun.

The Elephant Nature Park is the place to go - near Chiang Mai - you must reserve in advance.

I agree that it makes sense to stay in one place at the beach rather than moving around. I know people ruminate endlessly about which place to stay is best, but all of the options you've named are good. You won't go wrong with any of them.

As I mentioned earlier, the one excursion I recommend is John Gray Sea Canoes. Otherwise, I advise you to enjoy your resort, the great massages, etc. After all, this is a honeymoon.

Also, consider this as your first trip to Thailand. Like many of us here you many well become addicted to this beautiful and fascinating part of the world.
