2 months in Northern Thailand

Heading to Thailand for a few months. Visited Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia last year. Looking for help with our itinerary. We are renting a car and will be driving.
Bangkok 3 nights
Hua Hin 3 nights
Kanchanaburi 3 nights
Ayuthaya 3 nights
Sukothai 7 nights?
Chiang Mai area...not in the city but renting a house in that area 3 weeks

Fly to Malaysia for a few weeks the back to Canada.

We did something very similar a few years ago. We used Budget car rental. Their "world class drives" PDFs proved invaluable.

Strongly suggest driving the Mai Hong Sorn loop. The scenery is spectacular. It can be done in 3 days but a week is better. Happy to suggest places to stay along the way.

Also suggest you include Chiang Rai. Much quieter than Chiang Mai. A great Saturday walking market so try to schedule over the weekend.

The Black house and white temple are "must sees" some photos on our blog

Also from CM, Chiang Dao is worth a couple of days.

I would be inclined to spend less time in Sukothai and more in Kanchanaburi. From the latter you can explore the Erawan and other national parks in the area.
