1st trip to Vietnam

My wife and I are planning our first trip in Feb or March. We will be there for 10 days. Want to spend 2-3 days in Hanoi and then head off to a nice resort for 4-5 days of relaxing and spa treatements. Any suggestions?

Victoria Sapa Resort

Sapa could be a bit cold in Feb March.....Why not try a resort at Hoi An? Hour's flight. The fare is dirt cheap.

Yes. Spa in Hoi An is very famous for its quality. Wish you a nice trip to Hanoi and Vietnam as well!

Try the Furama in Danang (near Hoi An). www.furamavietnam.com/

I would second the Hoi An suggestion. I am very partial to Hoi An though. Some folks we met on our Halong Bay cruise stayed in Danang at the Furama. We later ran into them again in Hoi An, just after they were in Danang. They also loved Hoi An and were very disappointed in both Danang (there is just not much to do there and it is in no way a special, preserved older city like Hoi An) and the Furama. We had 4 nights in Hoi An and could have stayed longer. It is quite popular for repeat visits from European's. We hope to return some day too. It just has a wonderful laidback ambience that is hard to describe.

We are going to stay at Anoasis Resort south of HCMC. Website looks good.

i just came back from hanoi, halong bay, cat ba, danang, hoi an, hcmc...when you go to hanoi, please stay at either the softil or the sheraton, when you are in the city...then when you make travel and tour package, go to sinh cafe but watch out there are fake ones as i found out and was taken for an extra 500. usd...but when you are in hoi an...the resorts are beautiful and the people are very nice...it is a small and quaint town...they make silk lanterns...which you can buy and bring back because it is so cheap and you can use them on the patio, home or even as gifts...they are all hand made...then the other thing is hoi an is famous for made to measure clothing...bring some styles from home and you can basically have a new wardrobe for about 350.usd a men's suit cost us...80.00 - jacket, pants, vest in wool...silk tux shirt...bow tie and long tie...then we got a long wool coat, and a short pant length one for 65.00 usd...many tops and bottoms from 10.00 and 12.00...so this is where we filled our suitcases up...the fabrics to chose from are silks from japan, thailand and vietnam...best quality silks for tops are the thai silks...the best for flowy things are the japanese...and for just silk and not last a long time is the vietnamese stuff...my suggestion to you is a tailor shop @ 50 lei loi...very nice ladies...Mrs thu owns the shop but her 2 sales ladies work with no aggresive sales pitch...you get measured and it is all done in one day service...so not your whole time is spent on fittings etc...my friends with me are set for a couple of seasons now because of this...you will not find tailors who are so efficient and nice...there are many to chose from but they are not as reasonable or competative in their pricing...then if you stand infront of the store and to your left about 4-5 stores you will find shoemakers...beautiful leather shoes for about 25.00usd and made to fit so no more uncomfortable shoes...they fit like a glove...when i was there, some brits where there as well and the woman told me she had boots made because it was impossible for her to find good fitting boots...they made them for her in about day as well...so then i had shoes made and i am sooo glad i did...i feel like they are slippers...so in hoi an it is all about that...you must try a dish there as well called white roses...it is a specialty item which you can only find there...the sandwiches are also to die for...by the time you arrive furma should be open again...when i was there last week the resort was closed because of the heavy rain and so it damaged the place...there are also other great 5* places as well...if you can find the little restaurant called les amies..it was fabulous...have a great time...

FYI, there is potentially another typhoon scheduled to hit Danang around 11/02.

Can't wait for our time in Hoi An. Now that I read your info, we will spend more time there. We were planning to "beach" but now we will SHOP!
