15 hour layover after cruise

Will be getting off ship at Yokohama cruise port on a Friday at about 9AM and our flight to US leaves at 12:05 AM Saturday morning......so, about 15 hours to snoop around.
What are best suggestions in and around Yokohama and can we store our luggage at cruise port. I'm sure many have been in same situation in years past.
We initially arrive a day early for our cruise and plan to follow Arthur Frommer's walking tour of Tokyo.
Thanks for any suggestions.

Yes, but not Asia forum fodorites. Cruisers who are visiting Japan usually ask about getting to Kyoto from Osaka port. A couple of questions about the cruise port in Hokkaido, or Nagasaki, but not Yokohama.

Anyway, here is some info about the port area, and access to Yokohama or Tokyo: http://www.osanbashi.com/en/tourist/

The map at the top shows the Nihon Odori subway station is not far from the boat passenger terminal.

The map at the bottom shows that the subway line goes to Yokohama Station.

You don't really want to go back to the port to get your luggage. You could (probably) stash your bags at a coin locker at Yokohama station. After you day out, return there, and then take the Keikyu train to the airport. Here is the timetable for the airport express train: http://tinyurl.com/l2qnzp9

If you really want to dump your bags as soon as possible then Yokohmaa station would be better than the port, if you have a ton of stuff.

That map also shows a JR line (in blue) from Yokohama station to Shinagawa. That line goes on to Hamamatsuhco. Here is the timetable for that JR line: http://tinyurl.com/kmhne7l

The significance of Hamamatsucho station is access to Haneda airport. I don't know if they have coin lockers, but I suspect they do. Read this: http://en.japantravel.com/view/jr-ea...tsucho-station (I didn't actually read this)

If there are lockers at Hamamatsucho then a good option might be to take the subway from the port to Yokohama station, then the JR Keihin-Tohoku/Negishi Line to Hamamatsucho station, leave your stuff there, then return to take the monorail to Haneda. This is assuming you don't have so much luggage that you can't manage it on the trains.

Am sure there would be taxis available at the port to get to Yokohama station.

Wow mrwun, Can't thank you enough for all that good information, especially not leaving luggage at port and seriously considering leaving it at Yokohama station. You have been a BIG help in providing these suggestions.
