1 Month solo backpacker trip! How costly / enjoyable can be?
Hi there!
I've already got flight tickets for a month long visit starting mid October. I have some second thoughts if it is too long, but I'd really like to go around the country in relaxed pace, and enjoy cities, nature, culture, food... Do you think it is possible to keep the budget really low? A guidebook mentioned 50.000 KRW/day total. I’ll be travelling solo, sleeping in hostels, eating in moderate restaurants etc. And no serious alcohol expenses, not my thing… Any ideas for transportation, accommodation, good spots and tips for backpacker style to enjoy nice moments in Korea without luxury, would be very very helpful!!! Of course the point is not to cut expenses so much that I would end up missing the beauty of the places. Thank a lot!! Nikolas |
Yes, you can keep to a low budget, at least outside Seoul. You can travel by long distance bus or train. The tourist offices are very helpful, and both Lonely Planet and Rough Guide have guidebooks. You have enough time for trekking in the national parks. If you think you'll be bored you could make a side trip to Japan or Taiwan.

I'll try to stay all the month within S.Korea . probably accomodation seems the most difficult part for my budget! hostels seem not so common around the country, except Seoul and few other cities. any tips for low budget accommodation guys? thanks again! |
The guidebooks I mentioned. couchsurfing.com Possibly the monasteries.

There are many cheap hotels in South Korea cities. The average cost of the nine hotels I have stayed is around 30,000 won, from 20,000 to 40,000.

If you can afford it, I recommend the Korean Folk Village on the outskirts of Seoul.
