1 day in singapore
 

We will have one full day in Singapore prior to boarding our cruise ship. I know we want to include the night zoo. What else can you suggest? Tour guide or on your own? I would just do the hop-on-hop off but my friend prefers a guide. I need help in winnowing down the list of possibilities.

I too have one day in S'pore so i'll deplane, grab the MRT to Little India and check into some budget hotel. Then eat some indian food for lunch and zip off to the botanic gardens and fabulous orchids. Since i know the high solar radiation and humidity plus all the walking i like to do will tire me out i head back to the hotel for a nap. Then out on the street again for sightseeing the temples and shopping streets, having a swell indian dinner and maybe a beer or 2.
Up early for more temple festivities and breakfast, and walking in the cool morning. Have a mid-morning coffee and read the paper, check out of the hotel and on my way.

Absolutely no need for a guide in Singapore. Everyone speaks English and Singapore is very compact. Get yourself a good guidebook (The Singapore Tourist Board used to offer a free guidebook) and choose the places that interest you most. I always go to the Orchid Garden in the Botanical Gardens and I make a stop at the Museum of Asian Civilizations.

Try what Kathie recommended and the cloud forest. Personally I would go with Chinatown over little India.

Kathie is recommending the older Botanic Garden. It is one of S'Pore's historical spots somewhat close to Orchard Road. Lots of locals, and you'll see early morning Tai Chi and other activities, as well as the amazing Orchid Garden in the middle:

In my mind, you can't go wrong with either. If it is really hot or rainy though, the Gdn by the bay are temperature controlled.

Singapore is really easy. No need for a guide. Try eating at a Hawker market, visit the Asian Civ museum, or go eat at one of the amazing seafood restaurants. Bugis station has nice shopping, behind the Intercontinental Hotel. or head into the lively old style Bugis market across the road.

It takes quite a while to get out to the Night Zoo, so allow time for that.

I too would pick Chinatown over Little India. The Chinese Heritage Center was one of the highlights of our trip to Singapore in Feb/March of this year. The 2016 refurb has been a huge success. http://www.visitsingapore.com/see-do...ge-centre.html

The Asian Civilisations Museum was also fascinating, esp the Tang Shipwreck collection. The current Korea exhibition looks worth checking out. http://acm.org.sg/

Whenever our energy flagged during the afternoon, we popped into a TWG Tea salon for a restorative pot of our favorite tea and a slice of their decadent Singapore Surprise creme brulee cake.
