1-15 April 2015 in Japan - best route to catch some Cherry Blossoms

Hi everyone, this is our first trip to Japan.

DH and I would love to see some Cherry blossoms on the trip. I know this is a bit too early for forecasts, but we're trying to work out the best route based on our dates (we already have some nights in the middle for Kyoto booked, which we can change depending on the route we take)

Would it be best to do our trip in this order

Tokyo, Nikko 4 days
we're still trying to decide between side trips...
Kyoto,Nara 6-7 days
Hiroshima, Himeji 2 days

or reversed i.e. start in Hiroshima and work up

We fly in and out of Tokyo and are unable to get open-jawed flights
Thanks
Joanna

As a rule, I think the cherries begin blooming in the south sooner than in the north, so putting Tokyo at the end might make most sense. Here's a source that reports on the 2014 season:

Hope that helps!
