Zoom Airlines to London

Just read that Zoom Airlines, the budget carrier from Canada will begin flights from San Diego and Ft. Lauderdale to London. I priced it at $664.00, leaving June 9 and returning on July 9. Seat pitch is 31 inches and the 767 aircraft seats 2,3,2. Checked luggage is 20 kilos. They do make a stop on the way.

So, what is a budget airline to Europe? Pay for food? We're already paying for alcohol and bringing our own food (if we want decent food) when we fly the U.S. airlines to Europe?

Comments?

I'm a big fan of Zoom. I like it better than Air Canada because the prices are cheaper although they don't fly as regularly as normal airlines do.

Food is pretty good, you don't have to pay for it. I don't know about alcohol but I think it's free on board because they were offering red and wine wine to passengers.

Would definitely recommend them to anyone.

I haven't flown them but a friend and her family have - they are okay but she said they're never on time. Her brother's flight was something like 7 hours late.

That's usually the main issue with smaller, low cost airline. They have few aircrafts, so if there's a mechanical, you just have to wait. And they won't validate your ticket over to other carriers in those situation.

Sounds like if you are not planning to spent time in London, you should at least spend a day or two there before getting on another booked flight.

Couple of more issues:

1. Zoom will only fly twice a week FLL-LGW so I'm not really sure how Wally priced 6/9-7/9 as they don't fly on these dates. So as stated above, if there is a mechanical or a major problem, you could be stuck for 3-4 days.

2. Their routes are limited and they don't partner with any other airlines. Anybody living in FLL, NYC, etc. should take advantage of the deal, but what about people living in Kansas City, Nashville, Milwaukee, etc.??? By the time they pay for the domestic ticket to connect, they are paying the same fare as on any major airline, yet they don't have "same ticket" protection.

Come to think of it, I would investigate how financially sound they are. At the rate airlines have been falling, these guys may not last till July...

When I flew YYZ-GLA with them a couple of years ago economy passengers get one glass of wine with dinner for no extra charge. Premium economy passengers get as much as they want within reason. Everybody gets fed...nothing memorably good or bad. Both flights were within about 20 minutes of being on time.

AAFF: The ticket I priced was a one-stop from Ft. Lauderdale. Perhaps Zoom Airlines flys every day to London from Ft. Lauderdale but only operates the non-stop twice a week?

No, Zoom flies FLL-LGW on Thursday and Sunday only, at least in June. With a stop in Bermuda, execpt on 6/12, which is non-stop.

Or something like that.

You pa $15 each way to get seat assignment on regular seats. $60 to upgrade to its "Extra Leg Room Seat".

If we're talking about www.flyzoom.com then you should take another look.

Outbound:
JUN8 or JUN12 only

Inbound:
JUL6 or JUL10 only

Just because you asked for JUN9/JUL9 it does not show that. The site comes back with a list of flights and the dates for the outbound and inbound and they are 3-4 days apart.

It's either Thursday or Sunday for departures and arrivals. No other choices.
