Xmas cookies and airline security
 

Odd question, but my DH and I were discussing last night the pros and cons of taking baked goods through the airport security line this weekend. We are flying out of LAX and I thought I might bring a few tins of cookies, but I certainly don't want to have to dump them either. Any thoughts?

As long as they are not liquid, gel - that sort of thing - I don't imagine there would be any problem. Double check with your airline's website about carry on items.

No fruitcakes, though. Seriously, I remember reading an article a few years ago about how some sort of explosive detector registered positive when it saw fruitcakes.

We've taken some to DD at college and never had a problem. But you could also pack them in checked luggage if you have any concerns. And yes, fruitcakes aren't good. They're so dense, they "fool" the detectors and almost always cause additional searches.

There was a recent story here about a guy who was allowed to take a pumpkin pie on board but not a cherry one. Who knew?

Perhaps his cherry pie was a little to runny? A little tapioca in the filling will fix that.

Cookies went through fine; now if only DS had remembered to take his home today - his sister now gets two tins.
