Wow airlines discount flights to London from US
 

Starting next spring Wow airlines, an Icelandic discount airliner, will offer cheap flights from Boston, Baltimore and NY (I believe) to London and Copenhagen. Prices look to be as low as around 250$ each way, but baggage fees will apply and of course passengers will pay for all extras on the flights. Also, I believe the flights will stop in Reykavic Iceland on the way over.

WOW, of course, is an acronym for We Offer Woe.

Like GMC means Get More Car.
Like FORD means Fix Or Repair Daily.

Good topic diverger Topaz. I thought the thread was just going to be another boring one about cheap airfares. How much do they charge for First Class seats robincal? ;-)

Couple of points:

1) There has been no service announced to NYC.
2) They are coach only - everything is extra.
3) they have 3 planes (but getting more I think) so schedules will likely be tough to plan around.
4) The service is summer only as of now.

They are cheap, but likely for a reason.

For someone planning a summer trip to Iceland, and living within a reasonable drive of Dulles (one of their US hubs), this is actually good news to me :D I checked out prices - including luggage, it comes to about $600 each right now. I might get a better price later with sales - and I might not. That's a pretty good price!

They are planning to fly to BWI, not Dulles.

Looking at their website, they have only the one hub at KEF. No hubs in the US. But they are serving BWI and BOS.

Fair enough. Just trying to ensure the information is accurate for anyone else that might be interested.

As far as I can see, these flights don't "stop" in Iceland: they require a change of plane.

So eastbound, you leave Boston or Washington around 1800-1900, land at Keflavik a few hours later, sit round the airport till 0645 local time and arrive in London in mid morning.

Whereas just about every other route - including Aer Lingus via Dublin, or whatever's cheap via the near continent - gives you the chance of something resembling a full night's sleep.

They also say they don't accept "debit cards and cards requiring instant authorisation" if you buy food or drink on board - which sounds like banning almost all European cards.

Both, as far as I'm concerned, infinitely bigger considerations than baggage charges or having to buy your own food.

If you are in coach and leaving from Boston, most of the flights don't offer much opportunity for sleep. Many of the flights take off before 9pm, so you are usually at least a couple hours away from any reasonable bedtime. The flights to Europe are as short as 5 hours, depending on the jet stream. And you will be woken up as much as an hour before landing. At best you will usually get a nap.
