Will luggage be transferred if an itinerary has two different airlines?
My brother recently booked a round-trip to Hawaii through Expedia. On the return leg, he is on United from Kona to O'Hare; then is on American from O'Hare to Indianapolis? Will his luggage be transferred to the American flight? Would he be better off to do carry-on?

As long as the check-in person sees both segments, which they should if the ticket was bought through Expedia, through-checking should be no problem.
If it's on two separate tickets (i.e. bought separately) then you need to show the check-in person the second ticket so they can put the info on the bag tag. |
Thanks for the quick response

Done this multiple times. Just be clear with the agent about what you want them to do and this shouldn't be a problem.

I think that you already have the answers to your question but here is an added suggestion. When checking in, I always TRY to remember to look at the airport code on my luggage at check in. Errors will still happen but I feel better knowing that my luggage has the same airport code destination as I do. Woodie |
I am returning to Hawaii from CDG to LAX on Air Tahiti Nui, and from LAX to HNL on Hawaiian. Would you reccomend I check my bag straight thru from Paris?

kailuagirl - Have them tag to HNL if possible. You will still have to claim bags at LAX and go through customs regardless; but after you get through you can redeposit your bags there instead of hauling them over to Hawaiian.
