Which domestic plane is better - first class?
 

The B 767-300 or Airbus A 320? Seatguru mentions a 60 inch pitch, footrests and lumbar support on the 767 (and I know it has 8.5 inches recline), but calls the class "business" instead of first. Am looking for the most comfortable seats (most recline, lumbar) on Delta vs. United for a domestic flight (LAX-DCA).

The 767 is a double-aisle plane, while the 320 is a single-aisle, so you're comparing two different classes of plane, really (the 767 being much larger). My preference would be Delta, in that Delta's service is just that extra bit nicer than United's in general. And I'd get claustrophobic in that little Airbus....

As the bigger plane, the 767 generally has more room in general and bigger and more comfortable seats. Airbus is smaller than 757, which I find just mediocre in FC.

You would be better off flying LAX-IAD since you can go nonstop. To go to DCA would mean a connection (ORD for United and, I suppose, Atlanta for Delta).

united.com shows 320s on Delta and 757 on UA to DCA. On the nonstops to IAD, UA has some 777s. I live halfway between DCA and IAD. If I was going to LAX, I would head to Dulles and fly UA.

I meant that united.com lists 320s and 757s for United flights between LAX and DCA. The nonstop to Dulles is your best bet even if you are going into the District.

Mrwundrful, please tell me how you found Delta info on the united.com site. I'm getting dizzy from travel sites...

You are right but I have a variety of goofy requirements so I can't go to Dulles. I think I have the choice of itinerary A:
757-200, 737-800, 767-400
or B:
767-300, md-88
or C:757 and MD 88

Being new to online travel reservation sites, I am confused why some may have flights for sale that delta.com won't have listed?

I made a mistake when I mentioned Delta in my reference to united.com, I didn't see DL flights listed there.

Given your requirements, your ability to fly first class, and those options, I would choose to fly the nonstop 777 on UA to IAD!

Actually, I did fly FC on UA from LAX - ORD - PIT and back, and it was quite comfy, but that was in 1990. Things have changed, for sure.

Mrw, I have to fly in and out of DCA - no choice on that. I don't mind the stop as I can stretch.

One tip to all - watch out for the rules on Travelocity. Be sure to read them. They had it wrong on my chosen flight. It was right on Delta.com so that's where I bought it - it was clearly refundable there but Travelocity said it was "economy" (obviously wrong) and that it was not refundable. Even though Travelocity's phone support felt that was clearly wrong, we were both worried I'd be stuck if I bought their ticket.
