Which airport in NY
We are spending a week in NYC during the Christmas holidays, probably in a hotel located in midtown. We can fly into either JFK or La Guadia. Which airport is best? Should we also consider Newark?
|
Personally I would choose LaGuardia because it is a shorter and less expensive taxi ride into Manhattan than JFK.

LaGuardia.

Everyone I talk to says LaGuardia is #1 in delays, congestion, screw-ups, etc. Is this just legend, or is it that bad.

I have flown in and out of Newark, and esp. with the new train/shuttle right into the airport, it's a breeze to get to, even w/ lousy traffic on the roads. You catch a regular NJ commuter from Penn. Station and connect with no hassle at all to the shuttle right from station-to-station.

La Guardia is your best bet and closer to the city for taxi fare. It's true, pre Sept. 11th, La Guardia was a nightmare, but I have found it to be less so now. Of course, weather is always a factor, but that's true for all NYC area airports. Newark is less crowded, yes, but harder to get to from the city. It's a $50 cab ride or lots of time consuming transfers to buses or trains to get into the city. Not to mention the NJ tunnel traffic!

The Newark plan is ok if you don't have a lot of luggage. But if you do, then I don't think you want to have to transfer your stuff if possible. I haven't taken the train/shuttle as described above so I don't know how much walking or transferring there is between connections. But you still have to take a taxi between Penn Station and your hotel (i.e., exit the train, get to the street, catch a cab).

LaGuardia can be a mess, sure, but I haven't noticed JFK to be that much better, personally. LGA is my best bet for point-to-point speed and cost.

After everyone has said use LaGuardia you want to ask but? Please go ahead and use Newark. You will be one less person I will have to deal with at LaGuardia.
|
Yes, please use Newark. All airports will be a mess during the holidays.
