When to buy RT flight to London from DC

DH and I plan to go to London July 27-Aug. 3 for my 50th birthday. Our travel agent says she expects prices will start going down in March/April. Right now they are around $1100 each for economy and they went up about $40 over the past week. Should we wait and take our chances or book now?

I usually go with three months ahead of time for international flights and five weeks ahead for domestic. It is going to get expensive for the airlines if they want to fly the planes empty this summer.

I think your travel agent has her head in the sand. There is a civil war budding in Libya which continues to drive oil prices higher.

That means there will be continued upward pressure on airfares.

I'm guessing that your TA is not aware of this.

Next question: British Airways or Virgin? Prices are comparable, but more choices on BA. I have friends who recommend both, so we are confused and would love frequent flyer input. THANKS!

Do you usually collect miles into a frequent flyer program? If so, which one?

Our trip to London is in Sept and we have already booked; I believe nothing good will happen to fares between now and then, with the Mideast situation and gas prices going up.

That said, we did better than your price and from Florida with Delta.
