When should I airline tickets for Hawaii for August Trip?I am looking for the best fare.

I am going to Hawaii in August when will the fares come into my tax bracket? I am coming from the east coast.

that was when should I buy airline tickets for Hawaii

The best thing you can do is to figure out what "the best fare" range is for your trip and then continue checking religiously. You have to be ready to pounce when the seats hit the range. One thing that is helpful is to set up a "Fare Watcher" on www.travelocity.com and then bookmark it. You can also program it to send you an e-mail whenever fares change by more than $25. You'll be able to program five different itineraries, so you can choose several airports that you're willing to depart from and it will keep you posted. But I highly recommend that this not be your ONLY method and that you CHECK it yourself, rather than simply depending on the e-mail service. A day or two lag in your receiving fare info via e-mail could mean missing the best deals, which can sometimes be fleeting. Happy Contrails!

Thanks Jim I do follow regularly for few years now.
thing is I want to fly directly into Lihue Kauai (only United does this),stop over on the way back so that we don't have to put child threw overnight flight. Was wondering if anyone noticed any patterns. Will consider flying into Honolulu but still want to stop over.

best rate I saw last year for what I am asking was $800 think it will be the same for this year?

mindy Mar 6th, 2002 08:56 AM

I'm going in august from newark for 746.20. I thought that was a good price. My travel consultant found it on United.

Sarah Mar 6th, 2002 09:24 AM

mindy I am gasping what do your connections look like could you kindly tell me you details and travel agent. I am not getting that price on United.

mindy Mar 6th, 2002 11:27 AM

Sarah, I am flying from Newark to LA then Lihue. Red eye flight coming home. I called my TC, she booked a package with air and car rental (I needed the car) and got something called bulk air. The price includes the car! Says your local can do the same for you if it's still available. I did this a few weeks ago. Hope you have good luck too!

Sarah Mar 7th, 2002 07:44 AM

mindy could you tell me your agent not finding that fare or any kind of discount than what airlines offer straight out. I have been following fairs since October and I have never seen the discount you got.

mindy Mar 7th, 2002 09:49 AM

I asked my TC again how she got that rate. It is not a 'fare' but a package that she got from one of her suppliers not thru the airlines. I didn't find anything like it online either so was thrilled when she found it. She does not think it will still be available as she booked me in January. But it's always worth a try so call your TC and maybe you'll get lucky too.

Sarah,

That is why you should call a travel consultant. Most of these suppliers will only sell thru them. And while most like to book on their own, sometimes it is to your financial benefit to book with an agency.

Sarah Mar 8th, 2002 09:57 AM

Have called a number of agencies on phone and online, no luck so if you know name of a good agency than let me know.

jennifer Mar 8th, 2002 11:57 AM

I maybe able to help, at least I'll try. From where to lihue, what dates and how many people?

Sarah Mar 12th, 2002 02:22 PM

Thanks Jennifer but if people could just tell me their websites, methods I could do this.

I normally, watch major carriers, call cheap tickets, orbis, travel1.com Have not found any deals with travel agents.

Jen Mar 12th, 2002 05:48 PM

Hi,
I was watching the Today show not too long ago which featured best tips for making reservations for air travel.
The agent interviewed stated that after 12:01 wednesday morning until about two AM you can hit good deals on orbitz and other web based sites.
I got a r/t fare to San Fran from Detroit for 167 doing it.
Good Luck,
J

I ditto that one about searching for fares in the wee hours of the morning. Sometimes I can snare seats at that time. THen suddenly at 8 in the morning the plane is sold out. I think airlines pull inventory during the day, and replace them at night. :( keep looking!!!

jennifer Mar 13th, 2002 04:59 AM

Found a fare for 879.20 this am on UA. Not too bad, but date specific so not sure it would work for you. Good luck.

Sarah Mar 13th, 2002 02:10 PM

Thanks Jennifer. I am looking to stop over coming (SFOor LAX0 and going and will be leaving directly to LIH

I know I am asking for a lot here but I thought if anyone had good ideas. Should I wait should I book.

Sarah Mar 13th, 2002 02:16 PM

dates are out of Philadelphia on 6pm flight so I can leave work and get down there. Will have child with us so I would like to get in no later than 10pm (SFO). Sleep hotel airport. Want a morning flight out to Lihue. Will consider connecting in Honolulu but want to be on the island by 1:40-2pm on the Aug.9

Returning only an afternoon flight from Lih or honolulu another sleep over would like to leave west coast at 9-11 any earlier and the hotel is a waste as we will be expereincing jet lag. Also do not want to arrive later than 7pm in Philly. Always best to have direct flights on all legs of flights.

sss Mar 13th, 2002 02:18 PM

So that was departure on Aug8PHL, 9 SFO, Lih Aug 24

SFO return Aug25. Only because you asked.

Sarah Mar 14th, 2002 11:10 AM

Well I fished through old receipts this morning and found that the sales (ewr-HNL,phl-HNL) that I found in the past two years took place in May of each year (travel August). Don't know if it will hold true this year but crossing my fingers.
