Wheelchair Damage?

Has anybody had their checked wheelchair damaged during a flight? Do you know how prevalent this is? Thanks in advance.

If it is checked it is up to the airline gods -- there isn't much you can do when it is out of your control. But the chances are pretty slim - not much luggage is damaged %-wise, and wheel chairs are handled/loaded on board separately from checked luggage.

There is lots of advice on line how to file a report/complaint about a damaged wheelchair.

I'm traveling regularly with a wheelchair-bound friend. So checking the wheelchair on intra-European as well as on intercontinental flights/connections is standard procedure for us. So far, nothing more than a minor scratch has happened. My friend does not care about those minor "injuries" since he regards his wheelchair as a tool and not as a pricely possession. Loading/unloading wheelchairs is everyday business at airports, just like loading/unloading strollers at the jetway.

My exp is that we used the wheelchair to the bottom of the stairs and so the crew put it themselves in the hold and got it out so that we could use it at bottom of the stairs upon arrival.
