What's UP with prices?

I started to check out coast to coast prices a few weeks ago. I could fly from Albany NY to either Vegas, LAX or SFO for around $265 in mid Feb. This week when I checked same flights -- $410!! What's going on? Do you think prices will return to normal?

With the demise of National Airlines last week, the other carriers IMMEDIATELY jacked their fares up.It always happens.Even though in your case you would most likely NOT have flown on them, your fare is hiked. No way to get around it.It is doubtful from what I hear and see, fares will drop.Maybe after the first of the year.Thats just MHO.I am not an expert on anything.
Jason

Wait for Southwest to have another one of their $198 (or somewhere in that ballpark) RT coast-to-coast sales. Even if you don't fly Southwest, the other major airlines almost always match their fares.

You've got to love it when SW starts flying into your home airport -- even if you never set foot on one of their planes, chances are that airfares will be lower all around.

Vegas has never been cheap to fly in and out of unless you live on the west coast. Prices dictate demand.

Speak of the devil...I just got a "Click 'n' Save" email from Southwest this morning that includes an offer of $94 each way between Albany and LAX, among many other cheap fares. Check out SW's website for info.
