What movie would you watch?
 

I'm flying from Miami to London and on to Sydney for Christmas in economy. If I can watch a few good movies, it will help make the trip a little quicker.

Miami to London movies on BA:
Scoop; Volver; Invincible; The Wicker Man; You, Me and Dupree; Something's Gotta Give; Step Up; Beat the Drum.

London to Sydney (VIA Singapore) movies on Qantas:

World Trade Center (that could be a bit much inflight), Scoop, BoyTown, Beerfest, Monster House.

Just a comment: When you are waiting for the entertainment system to be turned on, and sometimes it seems like it takes almost an hour, listen to the comedy audio channel on BA. Pretty funny.

I'm assuming that the <i>Wicker Man</i> is the recent (dreadful) remake, rather than the splendid original with Edward Woodward as the flying copper investigating Christopher Lee's little pagan village in the Summer Isles off the Scottish coast, complete with a nekkid Britt Eklund doing the devil boogie in one scene. Now THAT would be a great in-flight movie, except they'd probably edit out the best bits.

Otherwise I'd watch Volver and then listen to the comedy channel. Maybe by the time you get to Oz you can have all the routines commited to memory.

Haven't seen most of these, but I enjoyed Something's Gotta Give - even if you don't like the cheese, you'll get to see Paris.

Watched Monster House on my recent AA flight. It's an animated movie, but entertaining nonetheless.

I hope it's better than &quot;Da Vinci Code&quot;. I watched that on my plane to AMS in September, and I wanted my 2.5 hours of sleeping time back!!!

Nowadays, I just stare at airshow for the whole flight. Even for 15+ hour ultra-longhaul. Seriously. And I have proof... :)

<b>Miami to London</b>- Volver. It's Pedro Amaldovar's latest, stars Penelope Cruz and another very talented Spanish female film star. He's my favorite director. You can't even compare his films to crap such as You, Me, and Dupree. Not in the same league at all. Hell, I'd watch Volver twice than watch any of that other junk.

<b>London to Sydney</b>- Why on earth would Qantas show WTC? Talk about lack of jugement, IMO. On that flight, I'd bring my laptop and watch a DVD of my own.

I'd just watch the airshow, too, and convert the distances in my head between English and metric units. Otherwise just watch whichever of the movies is an animation.

So, quick... What's 12,039 meter? ;)

Seriously, I don't watch the movies because it's too tiring for my eyes to stare at a small screen for so long for 2+ hours. A 40-minute episode of &quot;House&quot; is acceptable, but a movie is not.

Also, if it's a good movie, I'd like to watch it on DVD at home in my home theater. If it's not a good movie, I wouldn't waste 2+ hours of my time.

Anyways, 12,039 meter is 39,500 feet. Over Russia, Mongolia and China, their flight level is originally based on the metric system. That's why you'll find planes flying at xx500 levels, and not rounded to the next 1000 feet. I believe 12,000/39,500 is the highest they use.

I like the airshow too! But rarely travel long flights, so it's rare that I get the pleasure.

I'm no math genius, but could stare at maps, globes, and atlases for hours on end- at home or on a plane. Fascinating!

Wouldn't be able to do it quick, tho, because I usually can't remember the conversion values, so I divide two values to get a factor and if it sounds right I use it later.

Thanks for your comments. I put a notation next to Volver on my printout. I love to watch the airshow during take-off and landing and see how fast the plane is going. Last year on this flight, we flew over Turkey, Iran, Pakistan, and India.

BYW, does anyone besides me take asprin before flying to thin the blood a little. Don't want to get one of those bloodclots.
