what is allowed on carry-ons?

I hope someone can tell me, please, which site is most reliable and most clear for spelling out what is and is not allowed in carry on baggage. Must one look into each airline's restrictions, or is there some more general list of acceptables? Thank you.

http://www.tsa.gov/travelers/airtrav...rocedures.shtm - assuming of course you are coming FROM the USA.

Different rules will apply depending on which countries you are travelling - or transitting - through

Does anyone know if small, packaged candy bars are allowed in carry-ons? I need my chocolate fix!

if the question is about US domestic travel, then it doesn't get any clearer than this:

Is there a good site though that shows what is allowed when you are heading to another country and having a layover in a third?

I've got a layover at Heathrow before heading to Brussels.

For domestic travel, nothing has changed except the no-liquids or gels thing. For some reason, liquid also includes mascara. They have also begun to insist on checking prescription medication - saw them doing that today in Atlanta.

"checking" prescription medicine--does that mean putting it in checked luggage or having the TSA folks examine the meds?
