What happens to your checked bags when ...
you are traveling over 2 days? We are flying on AA from DFW to STT. We fly to SJU arriving at night and fly out to STT early the next morning.
Looking at AA online, it says that bags are checked through to final destination only. I assume that means that they will fly them to STT and we will not have them overnight in SJU. Will they be held overnight in SJU and then sent on plane with us next morning or will they go to STT that night and wait for us in STT? My guess is since there seems to be no flight that late at night, they will be held somewhere in SJU and that somewhere will be secure. We are trying to do carry on only, but not sure we [read that ME] can pull that off. So, where oh where will my bag be?? Any ideas? Deb |
You can always short-check it to SJU only, and recheck next morning.

Ray, you are always my knight in shining armor!
I have never heard that term; thanks. Deb |
You have to overnight in SJU? Your bags will be staying in SJU & should be on the plane with you the next morning. If they're not, they'll be on the next flight. The small planes sometimes have weight issues & luggage from previous flights can be on that plane.
Yours will probably go with you since you'll be flying first thing in the AM. The baggage delays seem to happen mostly when you are on the last flight from SJU. |
The TSA agents pick out something lovely to wear from your luggage and go out for the evening, returning them in the AM. That is why for early morning flights TSA agents always look so tired.

We short-checked one bag out of 4 from Nice to Heathrow, and it arrived just fine. Of the other 3, only 1 made it to Dallas the following day along with the one we checked that morning...and of those 2 (are you keeping up with me here?) only one arrived finally at Sacramento. Two more came the following day, and the final one--or what was left of it--arrived yesterday. It's a long story.
