What are all those fees?
 

This is what I see on our tickets and have no idea what is U.S. APHIS User Fee, for example.
How are all those other fees are used? Anyone knows?

U.S. Immigration User Fee: $7.00, U.S. International Transportation Tax: $26.80, U.S. APHIS User Fee: $3.10, Mexico Tourism Tax: $19.65, Mexico International Airport Departure Tax: $19.86, Passenger Facility Charge: $9.00

What is Mexico Tourism Tax? We will be paying tax on food, accommodation, etc.,

APHIS is the Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (Department of Agriculture). Pays for their services near Customs.

As for the others, I may not be completely correc on all of these:

U.S. Immigration User Fee - Pays for the Immigation services
U.S. International Transportation Tax - effectively the US departure tax. (Every country has a departure tax).
U.S. APHIS User Fee - as above
Mexico Tourism Tax -
Mexico International Airport Departure Tax - their departure tax (which is collected on the ticket instead of at the airport_
Passenger Facility Charge - Airports are allowed to charge up to $3 (max. $12 per ticket) for use of the airport itself. You get this on domestic tickets, too.

Thank you. I did not see any security fee and this is what's mysterious to me. Is it hidden somwehere?

1. APHIS User Fee--Agricultural quarantine inspection services international airline passenger user fee.It is set by the USDA.
2.US Immigration User Fee is just that and set by the USDOJ.
3.US International Transporation Tax--most countries have "departure" taxes.Simply a fee to allow you to leave their country.
4.Mexico tourism Tax--Since they have a Departure Tax,this is a seperate tax,rather than double the departurre tax.But still a tax,a fee to visit Mexico.
5.Mexican Departure Tax--fee to leave Mexico
6.Airport Passenger Facility Charge--Fee set by the airports up to maximum $4.50.Fees are used to fund FAA approved projects--better safety,security,capacity,reduce noise,increase air carrier competition.

You got a good rundown from previous posts. BTW, for anyone born in Mexico, the Mexico Tourism tax is waived, but you need to tell the airline at the time you buy your ticket. This can be a problem if you purchase online, which is sometimes where you can get the best fares, as there is no place in the process to note this exemption. You can call the airline after you purchase and tell them to delete the fee, which they can do.

Please think! The country sets taxes to cover current operating expenses. Visitors (tourists) arrive. Current revenues will not cover extra expenses. This is basic economics. Why should residents paying local taxes pay for visitors expense? Treat each country as a theatrical venue. "X" currency to enter, the same as a theater ticket. Fees are simply methods used to recover costs. If they are not reasonable, visit somewhere else. Most important, locate country tourist office and book complaint. Today, Polish would be tourists to USA are being charged $100 just to apply for a visa! USA tourists to Poland, three months, no charge!
