Not to belabor the point but i don't understand how a box will help you - it won't be till you get to the gate that you will find out if they will store the dress on the plane. Unless the box fits in an overhead?

Plan "C" - "If worse comes to worse, she could just wear it on the plane "

MmePerdu Sep 21st, 2012 04:09 PM

Yes, if the box fits in the overhead and if there's even room for it with all the carry on bags. And if you can get it past security, will it go through the scanner.

This has been quite a remarkable thread of the "don't confuse me with the facts" variety. When I suggested UPS or FedEx in post #6 at the beginning of all this, and others did as well, I believed it was the obvious solution. They don't lose things and what a relief to not have to carry the thing. Silly me.

Katy, I do so love Plan C.

Buy a first class ticket. The help you get when you're a premium passenger is so much different!

Where are you flying from and to? What is the equipment? The average overhead bin barely holds 2/3 carry on rollerboards. I know that EVERY bride thinks that she is special but if you have the space of a shoebox you cannot make it bigger!
Also saying you are on your honeymoon does NOT get you freebies or in first class these days....just saying!Planes are packed to the gills!!!!

Interesting statistics about this thread. There have been 44 replies, of those:

35 have been from experienced travelers advising deedeedee against trying to take the dress as a carry-on

2 have been mildly supportive of deedeedee by saying they think the FA's will try to assist her.

1 gives an anecdotal example of someone successfully taking a wedding dress on another airline.

6 have been from deedeedee basically stating she is ignoring the advice she asked for in her original post.

Obviously deedeedee was not really looking for advice but rather wanted confirmation that she should carry-on her wedding dress. So I wonder why she even bothered to ask the question in the first place.

If I were deedeedee's fiancé, I would find this thread to be enlightening.

"If worse comes to worse, she could just wear it on the plane"

I think the OP might actually BE the fiance!

Just back from our wonderful wedding. A BIG thank you to United for letting us use the closet to store the dress & the round of drinks they brought for the wedding party. By the way, I am not the bride or fiancé ... just an Aunt trying to help with the wedding. Thanks again

Funny this thread pops back up. On our flight on Lufthansa from Naples to Frankfurt, a young woman came on with a huge, long, white garment bag and I thought of this thread and wondered if she had a wedding dress inside. She folded it over and over and put it in the overhead.

deedeedee, Glad it worked out. I think being the "1 gives an anecdotal example of someone successfully taking a wedding dress on another airline" (Although I successfully carried the wedding dress onto USAIR) I thought it might work out, everyone loves a bride!

Hooray! After all the tales of woe and kvetching about horrible travel experiences that we see on these forums, it is a delight to read about something positive. I'd still not advise anyone to take the chance, but glad it worked out for you all.

BTW it wouldn't hurt if you dropped a note to United expressing your thanks for the good treatment. See http://www.united.com/web/en-US/cont...r/default.aspx

I think yes travel is right. Everyone loves a bride, and the bride has expressed her gratitude to United for all their kindness & help with the dress.
